New Texas Chain Saw Massacre Mode Is Drawing Positive Comparisons to Friday the 13th: The Game

As someone who has been a dedicated horror gaming enthusiast for years, with a particular fondness for slasher movies and their digital counterparts, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming Rush Week mode in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game. Having played the original Friday the 13th: The Game extensively, I can’t help but draw parallels between the two and feel a sense of nostalgic anticipation.

This month, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is introducing a fresh gameplay mode called Rush Week, free for all players. While it hasn’t been released yet, it’s generating significant buzz and is being likened to the de-listed Friday the 13th: The Game. Players eagerly awaiting this update seem particularly enthusiastic given its origins from Gun Media’s previous project.

A trailer for the new mode can be found below.

In the game titled “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” we find a prequel storyline that mirrors the 1974 film. It blends characters from the original movie with new ones designed exclusively for this game. One such unique character is Johnny, and his absence in the big screen version was explained through the creation of Rush Week. The narrative unfolds five years after the main game, where Johnny, on the run, carries out his gruesome acts alone. Each sorority girl slain during Rush Week empowers Johnny even further. A unique feature is the Fear system, where a girl’s fear makes it easier for Johnny to locate them. However, the girls can reduce their fear levels by accomplishing specific tasks.

Earlier on, we discussed how the girls possess some unique strategies to counter Johnny. A fresh tactic includes spraying Johnny with perfume, allowing them to track his whereabouts more easily. In addition, they carry defensive tools such as knives and pepper spray, as well as essential items for their survival. The basic outfits for the girls will consist of Pajamas, Cheerleader, and Nightie. Players who start playing this mode before the game’s October update will receive the Towel and Laundry Day costumes free of charge. However, after the patch is deployed, these two skins will be available for purchase at $1.99 each.

In summary, this new gameplay mode appears to be everything fans have been eagerly anticipating! The debut trailer for Rush Week has sparked a lot of enthusiasm on social media platforms like X/Twitter. While the connection to Friday the 13th: The Game is certainly a factor, it’s also because Texas Chain Saw Massacre players have been craving fresh content. It remains to be seen how the community will react once the mode goes live, but we won’t have to wait too long for that answer! Rush Week early access becomes available on September 26th through the Content Pass (retailing at $19.99), and it will be free for all players starting from September 30th.
