New The Crow Clip and Poster Released at SDCC 2024

As a huge fan of both Bill Skarsgård and FKA twigs, I’m incredibly excited for their upcoming collaboration in “The Crow.” The new interpretation of this horror classic has been a topic of much discussion and controversy among fans, with some expressing disappointment that the film doesn’t adhere strictly to the comics. However, as someone who appreciates creative reimaginings, I believe Rupert Sanders is taking a bold and intriguing approach to Eric and Shelly’s story.

Lionsgate is nearly a month from now releasing “The Crow,” featuring Bill Skarsgård and FKA twigs in pivotal roles. Skarsgård assumes the legendary character of Eric, previously brought to life by the late Brandon Lee. The film’s interpretation of Eric has sparked intense debate, with some seeking a faithful adaptation and others questioning its necessity. Director Rupert Sanders appears unfazed by detractors as the movie remains unseen by the public.

According to the storyline, “Eric (Skarsgaard) and Shelly (FKA twigs), deeply connected soulmates, meet a brutal end when Shelly’s haunting past returns to claim them. If given the opportunity to save his beloved by giving up his own life, Eric embarks on a relentless quest for vengeance against their murderers. Traveling between the realms of the living and the deceased, he aims to set things right and bring justice to those who harmed his soulmate.”

In the newly released video, located above for your viewing pleasure, things take a turn for the gruesome for Alexander Skarsgard’s character, Eric. Engaged in a shoot-out with Danny Huston and Laura Birn’s characters, Eric meets his unfortunate fate when he is forcefully ejected from the vehicle directly into the path of an incoming truck. Miraculously surviving this harrowing experience, Eric’s leg bears the brunt of the damage as the bone protrudes from his torn pant leg. With a painful snap, he manages to reset the broken limb, eliciting a pained cry from him in the process. The new footage suggests that Sanders has remained true to his word, drawing inspiration from the source material for its ominous tone and visuals.

After the success of “The Crow” in 1994, earning $94 million at the box office, numerous attempts were made to replicate its unique feel. However, following the negative critical reception of “City of Angels,” films like “Salvation” and “Wicked Prayer” went straight to video without any theatrical release. A TV series emerged in 1998 but was only on air for one season before being canceled by Universal Studios. Efforts to conclude the open-ended storyline never came to fruition.

Keep an eye on ComicBook’s real-time coverage from San Diego Comic-Con, along with latest information regarding “The Crow” set to hit cinemas on August 23rd.
