The game development studio Splash Damage has disclosed that their upcoming Transformers video game, named “Transformers: Reactivate,” has been terminated. Originally announced at The Game Awards in 2022, “Transformers: Reactivate” aimed to be a fresh, action-packed game for 1 to 4 players within the Transformers universe. However, after its unveiling, updates about the game were scarce, causing many Transformers enthusiasts to ponder when more information would surface. It turns out that no further details emerged because the project was experiencing internal difficulties and eventually had to be canceled.
On social media, Splash Damage announced that they are wrapping up work on the game “Transformers: Reactivate”. This decision means that the studio will be downsizing, which could potentially lead to layoffs for some of their employees. The company expressed gratitude towards Hasbro, the intellectual property holder of Transformers, for collaborating on “Reactivate”, and hinted at other projects they are currently working on.
Today, we regret to inform you that we’re facing some tough news: We’ve decided to halt the development of Transformers: Reactivate. Consequently, we need to reallocate our resources towards other projects. Regrettably, this situation may lead to potential job losses across the studio. Please understand that this wasn’t an easy choice, and it’s a challenging time for us and our team members. We’d like to express our gratitude to the team who worked on Transformers for their commitment and enthusiasm.
Apart from the initial teaser trailer, very little official information has been revealed about the game Transformers: Reactivate. Last year, some leaked footage hinted that it might follow the style of popular Transformers games like Transformers: War for Cybertron and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, both third-person titles. However, in more than two years, Splash Damage has shared no new details about Transformers: Reactivate until their recent announcement of cancellation.
Even though it’s sad to learn that the production of Transformers: Reactivate has been cancelled, there may still be other Transformers games in development. In fact, whispers and rumors hint that Activision might re-release War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron on contemporary systems, following their removal from the market previously. At this point, it’s not certain if these games will return, but there’s a glimmer of hope that we could get more updates about them later in 2025.
