As a seasoned cinephile with over two decades of movie-going experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the news about Venom 4 potentially becoming an Agent Venom movie is nothing short of exhilarating!
As a die-hard Marvel fan, I found myself pondering over the intriguing ending of “Venom: The Last Dance“. My favorite character, Eddie Brock, played by the brilliant Tom Hardy, experienced a conclusive chapter in his journey. In the heart-pounding climax against the monstrous forces unleashed by the symbiote deity, Knull, Eddie managed to part ways with the Venom symbiote.
Initially, when we brainstormed concepts for Venom 4 without Tom Hardy, the widely accepted theory involved passing the Venom symbiote to one of its latest fan-loved hosts: Flash Thompson, a former Spider-Man bully who later transforms into the government-backed “Agent Venom.” Now, there’s a fresh buzz indicating that Agent Venom could well be the focus of Venom 4!
Is Venom 4 An Agent Venom Movie?
According to Marvel insider DanielRPK, it appears that Sony Pictures is working on a project featuring Agent Venom. At this time, the most reliable information available suggests that this could be Sony’s next move with the character. Other rumors circulating should be treated with caution until further confirmation.
In the comic books, the character known as “Agent Venom” is a variation of the Venom symbiote that was initially worn by Flash Thompson, who used to torment Peter Parker in high school. After leaving school and serving in military conflicts in the Middle East, Thompson was severely injured during combat which led to the amputation of his legs. Struggling with life, Thompson was later recruited for “Project Rebirth,” a government program that linked him with the Venom symbiote. However, this bond came with strict conditions such as restrictions on when and where he could use the symbiote, and time limits to prevent permanent attachment.
Flash Thompson’s battle skills, combined with Venom’s symbiote abilities, transform “Agent Venom” into an exceptional undercover agent. Over the course of the storyline, Thompson and Venom develop a strong bond, leading them to escape government control and operate as true heroes. Later on, they become “Agent Anti-Venom,” gaining powers to combat symbiotes through this evolution.
What makes this rumor convincing is the sound business strategy behind it: Transforming the Venom film series from a buddy-comedy format into an action-packed superhero and espionage movie seems like a shrewd move at the box office. The main concerns now are who will be chosen to play the new lead character, Flash Thompson, and if Tom Hardy will reprise his role as the voice of the Venom symbiote.
Following two weekends at movie theaters, “Venom: The Last Dance” has raked in a global total of $317 million, while only costing $120 million to produce. It’s projected to reach or even surpass the box office success of “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” from 2021 ($506M), but it seems unlikely that it will match the original Venom’s earnings of $856M from 2018. Despite this, the performance of “Venom 3” has been strong enough to warrant Sony continuing their most profitable franchise within their struggling Spider-Man Universe.
Venom: The Last Dance is now in theaters.
