New Wolf Man Trailer Offers Most Vicious Look at Blumhouse Reboot Yet

As a cinephile who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of horror films, I must say that the new trailer for Leigh Whannell’s “Wolf Man” has me absolutely thrilled. The body horror elements showcased in this latest footage are truly chilling, and the transformation of Christopher Abbot’s character is nothing short of terrifying.

Leigh Whannell’s “Wolf Man” has released a fresh trailer, and it could be the most ferocious sneak peek at the Blumhouse reboot so far. Revealed on Wednesday by Universal Pictures UK, this new trailer showcases never-before-seen footage not included in the film’s previous U.S. previews, focusing intensely on the grotesque bodily transformations as Christopher Abbot (from “Poor Things”) appears to morph from a loving husband and father into an unsettlingly unrecognizable creature. You can watch the trailer for yourself here, but be aware: it is age-restricted due to its content.

Beyond Abbot, the movie “Wolf Man” features Julia Garner (known for Ozark and Inventing Anna) playing Charlotte, while Matilda Firth (recognized from Hullsraisers and Coma) portrays Ginger. The plot revolves around Blake, a San Francisco father who, upon his own father’s presumed death, inherits his rural Oregon home. His marriage to the influential Charlotte is strained, so he convinces her for a city escape to this property with their child Ginger. As they arrive at night, an unidentified beast attacks them, forcing them to barricade inside. As the hours pass, Blake starts changing, and Charlotte must determine if the house’s peril surpasses the risks outside, raising the question: “What if someone you cherish transforms into something else?

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating my next cinematic adventure with the upcoming release of “Wolf Man,” set to hit theaters on January 17, 2025. Directed and co-written by Leigh Whannell, alongside Corbett Tuck, this film promises a fresh perspective on an age-old tale. Joining me on this journey will be actors like Sam Jaeger, Ben Prendergast, and Benedict Hardie.

Previously, Abbott expressed his opinion saying, “I believe he delivered an outstanding interpretation of the story, and it’s clearly his unique take on it. If you enjoyed Invisible Man, you will undoubtedly appreciate this as well.” He also mentioned that “he has many surprises in store, particularly with the visual aspects.

Regarding the appearance of the monster in the film, fans won’t find it similar to the one shown at Universal Orlando Resort’s Halloween Horror Nights earlier this year. Whannell, the director, has previously distanced himself from that version and assured us that the monster in the movie will be quite different. Based on the trailer we’ve recently seen, that promise seems to hold true.

Initially, Arjen Tuiten is responsible for the makeup, and he’s incredibly skilled in this craft. As Whannell explained at NYCC, “The makeup he does is exceptional; it’s almost as if you were comparing a Halloween costume from Spirit Halloween to Rick Baker’s makeup. There’s a depth of lighting and artistry involved. I can assure you that the Wolf Man seen at Halloween Horror Nights pales in comparison to what we have here.

Wolf Man is set to open in theaters January 17, 2025.
