A fresh Wonder Woman movie is currently under production at DC Studios, according to James Gunn. The DC universe has had a bumpy ride on the silver screen. While Batman has seen numerous successes, other iconic DC characters have faced some challenges. Superman hasn’t enjoyed an acclaimed film since the 80s, Wonder Woman made a strong entrance in the previous version of DC, but was let down by a disorganized sequel and the shelving of a third installment, and Aquaman experienced a similar setback. With all that in mind, fans are optimistic about what’s to come as James Gunn begins anew with his revamped DC universe, which officially launches next month with Superman.
The upcoming film is set to reacquaint viewers with the DC universe, establishing a robust base for future productions. Given that the Supergirl movie has already been filmed and is scheduled for release next summer, there’s a great deal of anticipation for this one. Following the release of Supergirl, DC has plans for multiple movies featuring Batman, Swamp Thing, among others. Although many of these movies are in early stages of development and their release dates are uncertain, Gunn remains active in creating new projects.
Wonder Woman Movie Is Actively Being Written
According to Gunn’s conversation with Entertainment Weekly, a new film featuring Wonder Woman is being developed. This upcoming movie, currently without a title, differs from the previously announced “Paradise Lost” HBO Max TV series set on Themyscira, which Gunn has likened to “Game of Thrones”. He didn’t reveal who will be writing this new Wonder Woman film, but he emphasized that the DC heroine will play a significant role in the universe. David Zaslav, head of Warner Bros., has stated that Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman are key characters for the new DC universe, and Gunn agrees with this assessment.
Gunn remarked, ‘I believe he picked up on that idea from something I mentioned.’ Regarding those four key characters, I wouldn’t limit it to just saying they are important, but rather emphasize their significance to us. At present, I am quite confident about the progress of two of these characters, and we are currently addressing the challenges with the other two.
At present, there’s no definite timeline for when the upcoming Wonder Woman movie will be released. There’s been no announcement regarding the writer, director, or even the actress who will portray her. However, it’s exciting to know that DC is considering reuniting the trinity in live action again. This news follows the cancellation of a new Wonder Woman video game earlier this year.
