Next Battlefield is Returning to a Modern-Day Setting, Concept Art Showcased

As a seasoned gamer with decades of combat under my belt, I must say the return of modern-day Battlefield feels like coming home after a long journey through the annals of warfare. From the trenches of World War 1 to the battlefields of near-future conflicts, it’s time to strap on the gear and embrace the adrenaline rush of the good old days – the glory days of Battlefield 3 and 4.

Information about the upcoming Battlefield game has been limited, but Electronic Arts (EA) is gradually disclosing high-level details for the new instalment in their shooter series. They’ve even unveiled fresh concept art for the game, which you can see above, and have confirmed to IGN that the next Battlefield will revisit a modern-day setting.

Following World War 1, World War 2, and more recent editions like Battlefield 1, Battlefield 5, and Battlefield 2042, the series will revisit modern-day settings similar to those in fan favorites Battlefield 3 and 4. According to franchise head Vince Zampella, these titles represent the high point of the franchise.

Speaking about the best times for Battlefield, he mentioned that period was during the Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 era when everything felt modern. He believes we should return to the essence of what makes Battlefield unique and excel at it. After that, we’ll see where it goes. For him, the height of Battlefield’s charm lies in those Battlefield 3 and 4 days. So, it’s a nostalgic feeling for players, for him, and even for the team.

According to Zampella’s confirmation, the upcoming Battlefield game will once again feature 64-player maps, and it appears that the Specialists from 2042 won’t be part of the new game. Moreover, he has hinted at a potential release for Switch 2, expressing his desire to see the game on Nintendo’s console, although no official confirmation has been given yet.
