As a thrilled admirer, I can’t help but share the latest buzz about Sony’s upcoming God of War title. It appears that us fans will need to be patient and wait until next year for a hands-on experience. In a recent podcast, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb hinted that the release has been moved to 2026.
Earlier this year, whispers started spreading about a potential new project, said to take place in Greece and starring a younger Kratos exploring his bond with his father. Initially, it was speculated to be a spin-off or side-story, later confirmed as a 2.5D Metroidvania-style action-adventure game.
So far, Sony hasn’t publicly disclosed any details about God of War, with Santa Monica Studio keeping things under wraps since the launch of God of War Ragnarok in 2022 (apart from post-release expansions like Valhalla). For this current fiscal year, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yōtei are Sony’s main single-player releases on the PS5.
The future isn’t entirely certain, as Marvel’s Wolverine and Intergalactic have been announced as upcoming major releases without specifying a specific fiscal year. We’ll see if there are further developments regarding the new God of War, so keep an eye out for updates.
