As a die-hard Horizon fan who has been eagerly waiting for the next installment since the thrilling finale of Horizon Zero Dawn, I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of an online MMO set within the Horizon universe! Having played every single game in the series and even cosplayed Aloy at various conventions, I can confidently say that this news has me jumping for joy.
The upcoming Horizon title may arrive sooner than expected, but it won’t be Horizon 3 as you might think. Instead, the new game called LEGO Horizon Adventures has been launched today on Nintendo Switch, PS5, and PC. As for what lies ahead, it seems that it isn’t too far off.
Sony’s PlayStation continues to heavily invest in the Horizon series following the massive success of Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017. Since then, they’ve been working diligently to keep the series going strong, but maintaining that momentum has proven challenging. To broaden the series’ fanbase, they’ve developed a spin-off game called LEGO Horizon Adventures, and their upcoming release seems to share a similar objective.
Currently, Guerrilla Games is seeking applications for a Release Quality Assurance (QA) Intern for their upcoming online project. The job posting hints at a potential release within the first half of 2025, although an exact date has not been specified yet.
The specific title of this project hasn’t been disclosed yet, however, it is undeniably the online Horizon game that was confirmed to be under development as far back as 2022. As of now, there’s no official release date announced for this project, but it seems likely that it could come out next year, possibly even in an early access version first.
According to past whispers and disclosures, there’s a strong belief that this upcoming Horizon game online will be an MMO, taking place within the series’ universe. Moreover, since Guerrilla Games explicitly stated so when they announced the project in 2022, we can expect it to have a more distinct, artistic aesthetic.
Although there aren’t much confirmed information about the project yet, it might change soon if it’s indeed set for a 2025 release, even in an early access format. There are whispers of a PlayStation State of Play event scheduled for December, and if that happens, there’s a chance the game could be unveiled then. However, until then, this is all just speculation.
