The anticipated PlayStation Plus Classic title from the PS2 era, set to release on both PS4 and PS5, appears to have been inadvertently revealed. This time around, PlayStation enthusiasts are being transported back to 2003, revisiting a series that initially emerged on the PS1. Gamers who were actively playing the PS2 in 2003 might recall titles such as Call of Duty, Final Fantasy X-2, Enter the Matrix, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, SSX 3, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Soulcalibur III, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Tony Hawk’s Underground, Need for Speed: Underground, Jak II, SOCOM II: U.S. Navy Seals, True Crime: Streets of LA, Silent Hill 3, Manhunt, Sonic Heroes, and numerous other outstanding games. The PS2 golden age is being recalled, marking a significant period in the console’s history.
2003 marked the conclusion of the PlayStation 1 (PS1) series, Legacy of Kain, with the fifth and final game, Legacy of Kain: Defiance, on the PlayStation 2 (PS2). Now, it seems that this PS2 exclusive is making its way to newer platforms – PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PlayStation 5 (PS5), and is expected to be released as part of the PS Plus Premium service.
Currently, there’s no official word yet, but it appears that Legacy of Kain: Defiance has been rated for both PS4 and PS5 in Taiwan. This could suggest that it was indeed submitted for release on these platforms. The Taiwanese rating board has a reputation for leaking games ahead of their releases, so while there’s always the chance this is an error, it seems more likely that this is another instance of their predictive abilities.
It seems that we can expect Legacy of Kain: Defiance to join the PS Plus Premium collection and also become available for individual purchase on the PlayStation Store in the upcoming days.
Regarding the game, Legacy of Kain: Defiance was developed by Crystal Dynamics, a studio recognized chiefly for its Tomb Raider creations. Upon its launch on PS2, it received a Metacritic score of 75 and appears to have sold moderately, as indicated by the absence of further installments in the series.
Currently, none of the involved parties have responded to these claims. Should anything change, we’ll make sure to update this story. In the interim, for comprehensive coverage on everything related to PlayStation – such as the latest news, rumors, and deals for PS2 – click here.
