I’m genuinely disappointed to share that the anticipated release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2, a movie I’ve eagerly been looking forward to, has been pushed back from its original date in October 2026 to September 2027. This news comes straight from Paramount Pictures, and as a fan, it’s hard not to feel a pang of disappointment. The reason for the delay remains unclear, but it seems this isn’t an isolated incident; two major films under Paramount’s 2026 slate have experienced delays. However, there’s some silver lining: Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie has been moved up to July 2026, which is exciting news for fans of that franchise!
Previously, Paramount made available their animated series titled “Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” on Paramount+. This series serves as a link between the initial “Mutant Mayhem” and its upcoming sequel. The first season has already been unveiled, with plans for a second season at an undisclosed future date. Given the 2027 release date for the next installment, it might be ideal to roll it out either towards the end of this year or early in the following year. If there’s a third season in the pipeline, you could have a new Turtles series every year leading up to the launch of “Mutant Mayhem 2”.
So far, little information has been revealed about the upcoming sequel, but some intriguing details have been hinted at. In an interview with Collider, director and writer Jeff Rowe shared some insights into the sequel, describing it as a film heavily focused on villains, even going so far as to compare Shredder to iconic characters such as the Joker.
Rowe expressed, “I’m working on understanding this very point, and it’s the focus of my upcoming meeting. As for now, we’re right in the midst of it all. Shredder is an outstanding character; he’s iconic, classic, and widely cherished. He’s akin to the Joker. Even those who aren’t fans of the original content recognize him. I believe we’re aiming for a villain-centric film. At present, we’re deliberating over these aspects, but our choices as filmmakers will always revolve around what narrates the best story, particularly about our primary characters, the Turtles.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman shared some characters he’s excited to see in future installments of the franchise, including Shredder’s henchmen. He particularly mentioned the Triceratons, who played a significant role in the 2012 Nickelodeon animated series, as well as Casey Jones, Krang, the Rock Soldiers, and Neutrinos. Eastman expressed his enthusiasm for where the sequels to Mutant Mayhem might head, both in terms of the TV series and the next movie.
You can now stream Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, as well as Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, on Paramount+.
