Caution: This article reveals details from Tracker season 2, episode 18. This week’s installment of Tracker emphasizes the core essence of the series – Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley), the exceptional tracker, relentlessly searching for a missing person despite the odds. Although the show offers more than just this, Tracker seems to be maintaining its focus, delivering an episode that stands independently while highlighting the show’s strengths. However, with two significant storylines yet to be resolved, I find myself pondering over how the last two episodes will unfold and if I’ll need to wait for season 3 for any meaningful conclusions.
This narrative revolves around two main enigmas: the character of Colter and more recently, Reenie (portrayed by Fiona Rene). Since season 1, the Shaw family mystery has been developing, with the disclosure that Colter’s father suspected someone was pursuing him menacingly, leading to his untimely death in the forest. The intrigue surrounding Reenie is comparatively newer, emerging predominantly in the latter half of season 2. A significant client was introduced during this period, pushing Reenie to delve into questionable moral territories (granting her a certain degree of ambiguity). However, it’s apparent that there are hidden events unfolding which she is currently unaware of.
In this week’s episode titled “Collision”, one might expect the simmering tension between two larger storylines to be explored more deeply. However, it turns out to be an excellent episode regardless, delivering news that Randy (played by Chris Lee) will now be a permanent member of Team Tracker. This development is undoubtedly welcome for fans who appreciate his interactions with both Colter and Bobby (portrayed by Eric Graise).
Collision Brings Back Key Elements Of Tracker’s Best Episodes
Colter’s Skills Shine & The Twists Are Twisting In This One
In this episode, Tracker shines most when it highlights Colter’s survivalist abilities, not just his good looks and gun skills. This week, the story takes place in Michigan, where Colter is investigating the vanishing of a model who returned home from New York City and went missing on her way back from work. Initially, it appears that the narrative will follow a predictable path: she has a stalker who followed her from the city, she was kidnapped. However, what makes this episode stand out is that while all these elements are present, they are not interconnected.
Rather than “Collision,” the series delivers an abundance of surprising revelations that consistently alter our perception of the suspect. This isn’t exclusive to this episode; it’s a recurring trait in episodes of Tracker, where the main mysteries don’t monopolize screen time. However, unlike some episodes that lean towards predictability, this one masterfully strikes a balance between unexpected twists and plausibility (offering a blend of shock, gore, and profound psychological unrest).
All Of Team Tracker Gets Some Screentime (But No Significant Development)
Randy Is Made An Official Part Of The Team
In contrast to certain episodes of Tracker, where the story revolves solely around the case at hand, “Collision” offers a more inclusive approach, ensuring that each member of Team Tracker gets their own moment in the spotlight. Vera (Abby McEnany) graces us with her typical brief scene, providing Colter with a new case. However, I can’t help but feel she’s been underutilized lately, as she hasn’t taken on much more than that for several episodes. Reenie also makes a fleeting appearance in this episode, using one of her many favors and connections to retrieve the medical records of the suspects – yet another instance of her seemingly limitless network.
This week, it’s Bobby and Randy who are stealing the spotlight, and for a heartwarming reason: Randy is here to stay! Last week’s episode, “Memories”, seemed to be setting up Randy and Colter as a dynamic duo, leaving me wondering if it was a permanent fixture or a fond farewell. But now, I’m thrilled to learn that Randy is sticking around, making my fandom even stronger!
This week, the question about Bobby’s business partner was resolved when Bobby told Colter that his cousin had become an official partner in the thriving enterprise. I must say, it’s delightful to see Randy staying on board. The interactions between him and Colter are entertaining, but it’s the sibling-like banter between Randy and Bobby that is a real treat to watch, even in their brief scene this week.
Up Next: Reenie & Her Client Are In The Spotlight In “Rules Of The Game”
Will We Finally Get Answers About Leo’s Secret?
In the coming week, the second season finale of Tracker will primarily revolve around Reenie and her client, Leo (Pej Vahdat). Interestingly, it’s not due to a turn of events where Reenie mysteriously disappears, as I had been anticipating since Leo’s arrival and suspicious behavior. Instead, delve into the details below:
In the scenario where Leo Sharf, one of Reenie’s clients, enlists Colter to locate his vanished assistant prior to the launch of his business, the investigation unexpectedly gains a personal dimension, drawing Reenie into a lethal feud that endangers not only her but also Leo’s life.
This description promises an engaging experience as the next episode will solely center around Reenie and her client, providing ample room for the storyline to unfold clearly. Additionally, it looks promising to witness Colter stepping in to aid Reenie, given their past and the recent episode’s suggestion that Colter might be Reenie’s ‘one that got away’. With Reenie’s boyfriend missing from the last few episodes, this could potentially mark the beginning of a relationship between Colter and Reenie.
As a film enthusiast, I can’t wait to dive into “Rules of the Game” – it looks set to deliver an extraordinary chapter in its larger narrative arcs. Fingers crossed that it delivers on the promise of such an intriguing build-up!
New episodes of Tracker season 2 air on CBS each Sunday at 8pm ET.
