Next Wrestling Movie: Kurt Angle Reveals His Biopic’s Script is Done, Teases Casting Timeline

As a die-hard wrestling fan and someone who has lived through the era of Kurt Angle‘s unprecedented success, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation over the upcoming biopic about his life. Growing up in Pittsburgh, I remember cheering for Angle during his Olympic gold medal win and later, witnessing his rise to fame in WWE. Now, it seems we’ll get to delve deeper into the story of how he overcame insurmountable odds to achieve greatness.

Kurt Angle continues to be one of professional wrestling’s most inspiring success tales. Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, he transitioned from the wrestling mat to the wrestling ring in 1998 when he officially joined the World Wrestling Federation. Just two years after winning gold in the heavyweight weight class for amateur wrestling at the 1996 Olympic Games, he made his professional wrestling debut. His success with the WWF escalated quickly, as within a year of his TV debut, he had claimed the WWF Championship. He was a frequent figure in major events during the final years of the Monday Night Wars and headlined WWE WrestleMania XIX in 2003. Angle’s career with the WWE ended in 2006, after which he moved to TNA and reigned there for the next ten years.

Wrestling Biopic About Kurt Angle Moves Forward

But what about the story of what happened before any of that squared circle success?

In an interview with WFAN, esteemed WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle disclosed that his extraordinary amateur wrestling journey is being adapted for a biographical film.

“I got a movie going on. Really proud of this. It’s a really great story. It’s about a kid from the streets of Pittsburgh who overcomes all these obstacles, including a broken neck, to win the Olympic gold medal,” Angle said. “It’s only about my Olympic career. It’s not about my pro wrestling career. The directors are Ian and Eshom Nelms. They want this movie to be like a ‘Rocky’ type feel with a little bit of The Fighter and The Iron Claw mixed in.”

It was disclosed that Angel would play an active part in the project, however, his involvement would be primarily behind the scenes.

I can hardly contain my enthusiasm! For the first time, I’ll be working backstage rather than on camera. This project is destined for the big screen, and it promises to be an exhilarating journey for me – one that brings me as much joy as the Olympics did!

Significant advancements are being made in the as-yet-unnamed biography film. Not only have The Nelms Brothers (known for ‘Small Town Crime’ and ‘Red Right Hand’) been appointed as directors, but it was also mentioned that the script has already been completed, with casting calls expected to start soon.

As a game enthusiast speaking here, I’m thrilled to share that our script has just been finalized! Now, we’re on the hunt for potential investors – I’m confident we’ll find them with ease. Once that’s sorted, it’s onto selecting our talented cast members. We anticipate this project to kick off within the next three months. While I can’t reveal any names yet, let me tell you, there are some excellent candidates on our list!

Kurt Angle’s untitled biopic is currently in development.
