Nick Frost Promises He Won’t Copy Robbie Coltrane as New Hagrid

Incoming star Nick Frost says he is “never going to try to be Robbie Coltrane.”

In an interview, the actor set to portray a character in the upcoming Harry Potter streaming series, known as Frost, shared insights about his approach to the role. “I’m not just filling a space,” he said. “While I acknowledge and am inspired by Robbie’s exceptional performance before me, I won’t strive to be like him. Instead, I aim to contribute something unique, not a copy, but rather a fresh interpretation within the bounds of respect for the material.

In his continued comments, Frost explained that he’s always imagined Hagrid as a “wonderful, misplaced, volatile, amusing, warm-hearted kid,” and expressed his enthusiasm about diving into the project. Furthermore, Frost mentioned that he’s pleased with the decision to adapt one book per season, and shared his amazement at being part of the series during pre-production.

HBO’s Harry Potter TV Show Has Cast Its Main Characters

Slated for debut on HBO between 2026 and 2027, “Harry Potter” marks the first television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s contentious book series bearing the same title. For years, rumors about a “Harry Potter” series have filled countless news headlines before official confirmation. Lately, several actors have been selected for various roles within the series, including those portraying Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. Francesca Gardiner, the showrunner and executive producer, stated in a previous announcement, “The talent of these three exceptional actors is truly captivating, and we eagerly anticipate the world watching their enchantment unfold on screen. We would like to express our gratitude to all the many thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a genuine pleasure discovering the wealth of young talent out there.

For many years, the Harry Potter series was adored by millions, but recently, the author’s public anti-trans activism has left a lasting negative impact on the franchise for some. In early May, Lithgow mentioned that he is frequently asked about these issues. Lithgow expressed his personal views on this topic, stating, “I have my own feelings, and I won’t shy away from discussing it. Just because I may disagree… It’s a matter of nuance… And if I’m going to talk about this subject, I’ll do so from within the context of this project, as I am a collaborator with J.K. Rowling on it.” Other upcoming Harry Potter actors, like Paapa Essiedu, have shown their support for transgender rights by signing an open letter.

HBO’s Harry Potter does not have a release date.
