Nick Lachey Shares Rare Insight Into Newlyweds With Jessica Simpson

Nick Lachey never thought his daily life would be what thrust him into the spotlight.

Prior to hosting “Love Is Blind”, the host was married to Jessica Simpson and they starred together in “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica” from 2003 to 2005. At that time, he believed the reality show would primarily serve as a stepping stone for their respective music careers.

Nick revealed on the May 27th episode of “Richer Lives” hosted by Vivian Tu that the newlyweds had transformed into quite a big reality show. Originally, he said, it served as a platform for promoting music.

He clarified that his ex-wife and he were both releasing albums at the same time, but neither expected it to evolve into a reality series with a ‘fly-on-the-wall’ perspective.

However, in the midst of the unexpectedly swift rise to fame of the television series, the lead vocalist of 98 Degrees found that exposing his everyday life had some appealing benefits. Notably, for an artist who primarily catered to a “predominantly female” fan base, it opened up a fresh pool of fans.

He shared, “Reality TV gave me an opportunity to present myself as Nick Lachey, not just a celebrity, but as a person, to the world. Even those close to me found me intriguing, commenting, ‘He seems quite cool. I’d enjoy having a drink with him.’

In addition to growing his fanbase, Nick (who divorced Jessica in 2006) stated that the show allowed him to explore a new dimension as an entertainer.

He mentioned, “People never got a glimpse of that aspect of me earlier,” but it made me feel completely at ease being true to who I am.

However, despite this, the 51-year-old still had trouble adjusting to the presence of camera teams recording all their actions within their California mansion. This was particularly challenging for them when these individuals seemed unfamiliar and intrusive.

Reflecting back on those early days, I shared with the producers, “Initially, you suggested keeping a distance, treating yourselves as unobtrusive observers. However, my nature isn’t built that way. I explained, ‘If we’re to make this work, we need to break down these barriers right away. I can’t have you in my space, observing me every moment, without any communication. Let’s address this issue now.’

In time, Nick, who has children Camden (12), Brooklyn (10), and Phoenix (8) with wife Vanessa Lachey, developed such strong bonds with the entire production team that he considered them as extended members of his and Jessica’s family.

He couldn’t hide his affection for the team; he grew quite fond of them. I still recall the day we had to close operations, it was emotional as friendships were formed.
