Nick Viall and Natalie Joy Viall are navigating another tragic loss.
The former Bachelor contestant’s spouse disclosed that she experienced a second miscarriage, approximately two months following when the pair publicly announced their initial pregnancy loss.
Natalie, who is mother to 13-month-old River Rose together with Nick, posted on her Instagram Stories on March 23, “After grieving the loss of our second child at the start of this year, I discovered, quite suddenly and unforeseen, that I was pregnant once more.
At 26, I expressed, ‘I struggled for a while to come to terms with the events that unfolded, only to be given another opportunity swiftly and effortlessly. However, eventually, I discovered immense joy. We reached a point of profound gratitude. This last week, unfortunately, I experienced another miscarriage.’
Instead of her previous pregnancy loss not requiring medical intervention, Natalie had to undergo a dilation and curettage (D&C) for her latest miscarriage, which proved more challenging than she anticipated.
Natalie is finding solace in her loved ones during her recovery process. In her own words, “It might take a while for me to regain my usual self, or perhaps I never will.” However, she expressed a wish to keep everyone informed about whatever changes may occur. She also mentioned the importance of her husband and her beloved child, River Rose, who have been instrumental in helping her get through this challenging period multiple times.
Nick, aged 44, re-shared Natalie’s post on his Instagram Stories and subsequently uploaded a picture of her enjoying playtime with River in a sandbox, accompanied by a red heart emoji.
On their podcast “The Viall Files”, the couple shared about their first experience with pregnancy loss. In the January 29th episode, Natalie expressed that she was currently undergoing a miscarriage, which was one of the most painful experiences she had ever encountered in her life.
In my experience as a lifestyle guide, I’ve come across many women who have shared similar stories. They often describe it as feeling like they were giving birth prematurely, which can be a shocking and traumatic experience. One woman put it poignantly, “I went to the restroom and instead of delivering a baby in a hospital, I was delivering one at home – only there was no baby, just blood.” The overwhelming emotions that follow are hard to describe – a mix of disbelief, fear, and sorrow. It’s a moment when you feel utterly helpless, asking yourself questions like, “How am I supposed to handle this? How do I deal with something as delicate and precious as a life, lost before it even had a chance to grow?
Given the heart-wrenching nature of the task, I can only imagine how difficult it must be for any parent to perform. Thankfully, Nick shared that he managed to recover what was left for a burial, and I truly hope no one else has to go through such an ordeal. Here’s to all the devoted dads out there, may you always stand ready to lend a comforting hand when needed.
Natalie shared with her spouse, “I’ve never felt more devastated or sorrowful, yet I recognize the importance of being there for my family who depend on me. This is what keeps me going each morning. I’m thankful for this and cherish you immensely.
