Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan return in first look at The Split: Barcelona

As a film enthusiast with a soft spot for well-crafted dramas and a penchant for British television, I must say that The Split: Barcelona has piqued my interest. Having spent several years living in Barcelona myself, the picturesque Catalan vineyard setting is already tugging at my heartstrings.

The Split: Barcelona has dropped its first teaser, giving fans of the legal drama a glimpse of what to expect when it returns over the Christmas period.

In this television series, actors Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan portray characters Hannah and Nathan, who are lawyers and were originally married at the start of the show. However, their marriage has experienced some turbulence and they’ve gone through a difficult separation since then.

In this two-part special, you’ll see them coming together again as they attend the wedding of their daughter Liv (Elizabeth Roberts) and her fiancé Gael (Alex Guersman). The beautiful ceremony is set in a charming Catalan vineyard.

Absolutely, it’s not all about hors d’oeuvres and champagne. The outline hints: “Shocking truths surface that could potentially disrupt the wedding, undo a 30-year union, and motivate Hannah to confront her anxieties and embrace a fresh start.

It seems like “Toby Stephens’ enigmatic character,” Archie, is developing a romantic interest in someone, as he encourages her to make the daring step into a romantic affair at one point.

Back in May, when the upcoming episodes were revealed, the show’s creator, Abi Morgan, mentioned: “In a world filled with harsh separations and intriguing reunions, the Defoe family receives an invitation to their own destination wedding. This event promises all that viewers have come to cherish about The Split.

Here’s an attempt at paraphrasing: “A tumultuous prenuptial agreement, scandalous gatecrashers at weddings, and unconventional marriage proposals from the skies – it’s like a romantic comedy taken a dark turn. This chaotic, uproarious weekend is sure to stir emotions and leave you breathless, even after all the guests have departed.

In addition to Barcelona, we notice the comeback of various familiar faces such as Annabel Scholey portraying Nina, Deborah Findlay taking on the role of Ruth, Fiona Button playing Rose, and Ian McElhinney assuming the character of Ronnie.

Over the holiday period, the special two-night event takes place successively on the 29th and 30th of December. You can catch it live on BBC One, or if that’s not convenient, you can always watch it later through BBC iPlayer. Make sure to mark those dates!
