As a dedicated fan of the timeless masterpieces that Masayuki Kato has graced us with over the years, his passing leaves an indelible void in the world of video games. Born in 1946 and founding Nihon Falcom at the tender age of 34, he was a true visionary who embodied the spirit of innovation and perseverance.
Masayuki Kato, who established, led as chairperson, and previously served as president for Nihon Falcom – the studio behind The Legend of Heroes and Ys series – has sadly passed away at the age of 78, as per a statement made by Falcom on December 15.
Kato established Falcom back in March 1981 when he was 34 years old, which is on August 19, 1946. As the founder of the company, he held the position of president from its inception. However, his role transitioned to that of chairman in 2001.
A private funeral and vigil are scheduled for immediate family members, while a public memorial event is being arranged at a future time, with specifics still to be announced.
