Nike Goes Full Anime With New Nigo Collection: Watch Promo

As a gamer with a deep-rooted passion for both sneakers and anime, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming Nike x Nigo collaboration! Growing up, I remember coveting the Air Force Ones that were the epitome of cool back in the day. Now, seeing them reimagined with an anime twist is just mind-blowing!

Anime‘s continued popularity has lent the medium to explore some wild territories. In recent years, we’ve seen the likes of the Transformers, Dragon Ball, My Hero Academia, Rick And Morty, and more collaborate to make unique sneakers. Now, Nike has teamed up with Japanese fashion designer Nigo to create Air Force Ones that definitely have a wild anime feel to them. On top of releasing quite a bit of info regarding the upcoming collaboration, the Nike/Nigo collaboration has released an anime-style trailer to create a brand new universe for the unique shoes set to land this month.

Although Nigo isn’t deeply rooted in the anime scene, he has garnered recognition within Japan’s music industry as a member of Teriyaki Boyz. Speaking about the impending arrival of Air Force IIIs in Japan on September 28th, Nigo expressed his views about his collaboration with Nike, stating, “Nike boasts numerous masterpieces. The Air Force 3, I recall being captivated by it back then. Through my initial partnership with Nike, I aim to rekindle its brilliance for everyone.” Moreover, he suggested that this joint venture was just the beginning, implying that further collaborations, possibly involving anime, could be forthcoming.

Speaking about my collaboration with Nike, I visited their global headquarters and drew immense inspiration from their archives, lab, and the dedicated team there. Besides providing information about the Nike and Nigo collaboration, the shoe creators also released a new trailer to unveil an anime-inspired world born from their partnership. Drawing inspiration from Sentai shows like the Power Rangers and Kamen Rider, these upcoming sneakers are set to establish a unique universe of their own.

The Naruto Nikes

Previously noted, Nike has a history of collaborating with anime productions. One of their most notable partnerships was with the Hidden Leaf Village to produce Naruto-themed Air Jordans. NBA player Zion Williamson played a role in designing these distinctive anime shoes, and even received a blessing from Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto.

Back in 2020, during an interview, I talked about the profound impact the Ninja Shonen series had on me. “Initially, people didn’t seem to appreciate Naruto much, but then he trained under master shinobi Jiraiya for three years and returned at sixteen, absolutely thriving. Guess what? I was also 16, and just like that, the spotlight started shining on me. Can you believe it? That was Naruto’s moment, and it feels like my time is now too.
