As a long-time fan of Dancing with the Stars and someone who has followed Nikki Garcia and Artem Chigvintsev‘s journey since their days on the show, I am deeply saddened by the recent events that have unfolded in their personal life.
Nikki Garcia is back in the public eye.
Four days following her husband Artem Chigvintsev’s arrest on a domestic violence charge, the 40-year-old collaborated with Rob Riggle at Netflix’s live event “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef”.
At the September 2nd gathering, Nikki expressed her gratitude and joy, saying, “It’s wonderful to be here,” while donning a stylish red pantsuit and vest top. To a delighted fan, she reciprocated the sentiment with, “I feel the same about you.”
On August 23rd, Nikki initially disclosed that she would be hosting the Netflix special, approximately a week prior to her husband’s arrest. She expressed her excitement about it on Instagram with the statement, “This is going to be AMAZING!!”
Six days following our nuptials in 2022, I, Artem—partner to Nikki and father of Matteo, who’s now 4 years old—was taken into custody on August 29, as reported by TopMob News, in Napa, California. The charges against me were under California penal code section 273.5 (a)PC, which pertains to acts of domestic violence. Subsequently, I was granted bail set at $25,000.
TopMob News reached out to reps for Artem at the time but did not hear back.
On the subsequent day, a representative of the former ‘Total Bellas’ cast member reached out to TopMob News, expressing on her behalf, “This issue is personal, and Nikki requests that her and her family’s privacy be respected during this period.”
Based on reports, it’s said that the professional dancer from “Dancing with the Stars” reportedly attempted to halt the response of paramedics, but an hour later, the police showed up at the location and eventually apprehended Artem a short while afterwards.
In a statement to TopMob News, the Napa County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer explained that when someone is accused of felony domestic violence, it typically involves observable harm or reliable testimony from a witness. The deputies involved in the arrest felt confident enough to charge him with felony domestic violence.
Despite Nikki keeping quiet about her current relationship status with Artem after his arrest, it was noticed that she wasn’t wearing her wedding ring when boarding a private jet from Oakland, California on August 31st.

It was that same day that additional details surrounding the incident came to light.
Based on a radio dispatch call acquired by TMZ on August 30, it appears that Artem requested emergency medical help and claimed to the dispatchers that Nikki had reportedly thrown shoes at him.
Originally, it seemed like the person on the line needed medical assistance, as mentioned by the dispatcher according to TMZ. However, now he’s revealing that there was a disagreement with his spouse instead, and she allegedly threw shoes at him.
During the conversation with Artem, it was mentioned there was a potential disruption situation (similar to a disturbance of peace). As a result, the dispatcher verified that medical aid was en route and also mentioned a child was present at the location.
As reported by the source, it is said that the professional dancer from “Dancing with the Stars” attempted to halt the arrival of paramedics soon afterwards, but the police showed up an hour later at the location where Artem was eventually taken into custody.
In a statement to TopMob News following an arrest, the Napa County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer explained that when someone is accused of felony domestic violence, it typically involves noticeable harm or reliable testimony from a witness. The deputies involved in the case felt confident enough to make the arrest based on these charges of felony domestic violence.
Despite Nikki keeping silent about her relationship status with Artem after his arrest, it’s worth noting that she was spotted without her wedding ring while boarding a private aircraft in Oakland, California on August 31st.

Artem Chigvintsev was arrested shortly before 10 a.m. on Aug. 29, Napa County Sheriff’s Office’s Public Information Officer Henry Wofford confirmed to TopMob News.
Wofford noted the Dancing With the Stars pro did not was resist and was taken to the Napa County Department of Corrections. Chigvintsev was booked on a charge of felony domestic violence with a bail set at $25,000, per online records.
On August 29th, at exactly 2:18 PM, the jail authorities granted bail to the dance professional, as confirmed by Wofford to TopMob News. However, a court hearing date is still pending.
During an interview with NBC News, Wofford stated that Chigvintsev was apprehended in Yountville, California, but did not disclose the exact location out of respect for the privacy of the alleged victim. The sheriff is also withholding the name, gender, age, and relationship of the alleged victim to Chigvintsev. However, Wofford did provide some insights about the arrest.
In an audio clip released by TMZ on August 30th, a dispatcher can be heard responding to a call from Chigvintsev who requested medical assistance following an argument. Allegedly, shoes were thrown at him during the dispute. However, the caller later informed the dispatcher that no longer needed medical attention.
I’ve been eagerly waiting for any word from Val Chmerkovskiy’s brother, Artem Chigvintsev, ever since that unfortunate incident on August 30th. I’ve even reached out to his representative, hoping to get some clarity, but as of yet, I haven’t received a response. It’s driving me crazy not knowing what’s going on! I just can’t help but wonder what he’s thinking and feeling during this tough time.
Chigvintsev was taken into custody just about three weeks before the start of Dancing With the Stars season 33. Interestingly, despite being a past Mirrorball trophy winner who has participated in 12 seasons of this series, he wasn’t scheduled to be part of the current season as per Page Six and Variety reports. We have contacted ABC for clarification but haven’t received a response yet.
A representative for Nikki Garcia, who danced together with Artem Chigvintsev during season 25 of “Dancing With the Stars” in 2017, spoke up about his arrest on August 30th. They requested privacy for Nikki and her family at this time, stating that this is a personal matter.
Following Chigvintsev’s arrest, Cheryl Burke, a former professional dancer on Dancing With the Stars who retired in 2022 after 26 seasons, expressed her feelings about the situation. Since Chigvintsev was someone she grew up with and lived with at one point, Burke shared on her podcast Sex, Lies and Spray Tans that she was taken aback by his arrest.
