Ninja Gaiden 4 Talks Began “Six or Seven Years Ago,” Says Phil Spencer

Out of all the displayed titles during Xbox Developer_Direct, it’s safe to say that Ninja Gaiden 4 made the biggest impression. The narrative revolves around a new character named Yakumo, who embarks on a mission to eliminate the Dark Dragon in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo. However, the series’ veteran character, Ryu Hayabusa, is also present, but his motives remain mysterious.

Over thirteen years since the initial release of Ninja Gaiden 3, its unexpected return seems almost unreal. But following the confirmation that Team Ninja and PlatinumGames had been secretly working on the project for years, it turns out discussions between them and Microsoft’s gaming division actually began well beforehand.

In conversation with Gamertag Radio, Spencer disclosed that the development of our latest game started approximately six or seven years ago when Xbox posed a hypothetical question: “What if?” to certain parties.

He expressed his satisfaction by saying, “I’m really pleased with our ties with the Japanese publishers,” acknowledging it required “many trips, video calls, and attentive listening.” Despite his joy in witnessing advancements, Spencer feels there’s still much to accomplish. However, he emphasized that this is what the Xbox community expects, and he plans to keep his focus on that.

This fall, “Ninja Gaiden 4” is set to release, and though it’s published by Xbox Game Studios, you can find it not just on Xbox Series X/S and PC, but also for PlayStation 5. It will also be available immediately on Game Pass. For more information about the combat, such as Yakumo’s Bloodraven Form, click here.
