Nintendo GameCube Update Stuns Fans: Controller Controversy Erupts

Fans hoping for news about the upcoming Switch 2 from Nintendo might have been disappointed with the latest announcement. Instead of focusing on the Switch 2, Nintendo revealed that they are bringing Nintendo GameCube games to the Nintendo Switch Online platform starting June 5. However, these classic GameCube games will only be accessible through the Expansion Pack tier of the subscription service, similar to N64 games. It’s important to note that this is not the news Switch 2 enthusiasts were anticipating.

Alongside this announcement, Nintendo has decided to reintroduce the GameCube controller and make it available when GameCube games are added to Nintendo Switch Online. This move isn’t unexpected since they have previously remade the NES, SNES, and N64 controllers. What is surprising, however, is that the GameCube controller seems to only function with GameCube games, unlike its predecessors which can be utilized for games beyond their respective consoles.

A recently released Nintendo video reveals that the controller mentioned in it is exclusively compatible with the Nintendo GameCube and its Classic series. This development has left many Nintendo enthusiasts disappointed by the revelation.

I won’t choose this one. I had high hopes for it, but I believe I’ll go with a different solution which lets me employ it as a replacement controller.

To put it simply, while it’s factual that this disclaimer exists, history shows that similar disclaimers were used for older game controllers, only to find out later they weren’t entirely truthful. Therefore, there’s a possibility that this is yet another instance of such a scenario.

One enthusiast remarks that the SNES controller also had a disclaimer, which likely served to confirm its intended use in specific games rather than claiming it couldn’t be used elsewhere.

Currently, we’re in a phase where discussion revolves around speculations since Nintendo has yet to address the topic. Silence often lends credibility to unfavorable reports, but Nintendo tends to remain tight-lipped about rumors and conjecture. If they decide to break their silence, we will promptly update the story.
