Starting from April 24th, Nintendo has shared that it’s phasing out one of its eShop perks, My Nintendo Gold Points. After this date, you won’t earn Gold Points when purchasing digital games on the Nintendo Switch eShop or pre-ordering games.
Those who purchase physical versions of Nintendo Switch games will no longer accrue Gold Points for titles released prior to a specified date. Nevertheless, any unused Gold Points obtained from these games can be redeemed within one year after the game’s release date.
As a dedicated fan, I’m excited to share that although the distribution of Gold Points will cease, any points already earned will remain valid for a full year from the date they were acquired. Typically, these points accounted for approximately 5% of the game’s price (excluding taxes and digital discounts), while physical copies granted players with 1% of the game’s price.
After April 24th, individuals who have accumulated their My Nintendo Gold Points can continue using them to buy new games or get reduced prices on titles via the eShop. However, it’s important to note that these points must be used within 12 months of being earned.
Back in the day, I was earning Gold Points playing games on my Nintendo console, but it wasn’t until March 2018 that Nintendo finally let us use those points to buy even more games from their digital storefront, the eShop.
