Are games too expensive or too cheap? It’s a debate that’s been raging for quite some time.
Regarding the Nintendo Switch 2, it appears that the Japanese company feels the price of their software isn’t high enough. The system’s premier new exclusive, Mario Kart World, is set to sell for a rather steep $79.99 in the U.S.
The price of this game is $10 higher compared to the priciest PS5 titles, such as Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, that retails for $69.99 when it initially hits the market.
For those of you residing in Europe, here’s some unfortunate news: the cost of physical games is set to increase compared to their digital versions. In the UK, for instance, a boxed copy of Mario Kart World will amount to approximately £74.99 (equivalent to $97). This is an unparalleled price rise!
It’s important to mention that Nintendo seems to be adopting a more adaptable approach with its pricing. For instance, the upcoming Donkey Kong game is planned to have a lower price tag. Moreover, Mario Kart World will come as part of a console package deal, making it a compelling option given the competitive prices being discussed here.
So, if Nintendo successfully sells its games at these prices, it might lead PlayStation publishers to also increase the cost of their games for the PS5.
There’s no way GTA 6, for example, will be priced lower than Mario Kart World.
