Nintendo Switch 2 Accessories – Everything You Need to Know

Upon the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, a variety of accessories will be available to enhance and customize your gaming experience. Here are some accessories you should consider:

1. Nintendo Switch Pro Controller – This controller offers improved ergonomics and a more traditional design compared to the Joy-Con controllers that come with the standard Switch. It’s perfect for those who prefer a more familiar feel in their gaming sessions.

2. Nintendo Switch Lite Carrying Case – Keep your Nintendo Switch 2 protected on the go with this sturdy carrying case, which has compartments for storing games and other accessories.

3. Nintendo Switch Charging Dock – This dock allows you to charge your Nintendo Switch 2 when it’s not in use, keeping it ready for your next gaming session. It also makes it easy to switch between TV mode and handheld mode.

4. MicroSD Cards – Expand the storage capacity of your Nintendo Switch 2 with these microSD cards, which are essential if you plan on downloading multiple games or saving a large amount of game data.

5. Screen Protectors – Protect your Nintendo Switch 2’s screen from scratches and scuffs with a durable screen protector. This is especially important for those who plan on taking their console on the go.

6. Grip Cases – These cases provide a more comfortable grip, making handheld gaming sessions more enjoyable. They also offer additional protection for your Nintendo Switch 2.

7. Joy-Con Charging Grip – This accessory allows you to charge multiple Joy-Cons at once, making it easy to keep your controllers ready for gameplay.

8. Nintendo Switch Online Membership – To enjoy online multiplayer games and access to classic NES and SNES titles, consider purchasing a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

9. Cartridge Cases – Keep your physical game cartridges organized and protected with these cases, which come in various designs and styles.

10. Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Wheel – This accessory turns the Joy-Cons into steering wheels for enhanced gaming experiences in games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and F-Zero.

NINTENDO SWITCH 2 PRO CONTROLLER – $84.99

Just like with my original Nintendo Switch (and the Wii and the Wii U), Nintendo’s going to include a Pro Controller with the Switch 2. Many gamers, including myself, will probably take advantage of this option. The Switch 2 Pro Controller is likely to resemble its predecessor, but Nintendo’s got some cool improvements up their sleeve for this new version. In many ways, the transition from the Switch 1 to the Switch 2 is similar to what we can expect between these two controllers – iterative changes that make a big difference. Let’s dive into those enhancements!

NINTENDO SWITCH 2 PRO CONTROLLER – NEW FEATURES

In addition to all the features you’d typically find in its predecessor, the Switch 2 controller will boast a fresh assortment of unique attributes. Among these are the GL and GR buttons situated at the rear, which can be customized for various actions and inputs. It also boasts an upgraded HD Rumble 2 for enhanced tactile feedback, a C Button integrated with GameChat, and a 3.5mm audio jack that allows direct headset plug-in for private listening.

JOYCON 2 CONTROLLERS AND STRAPS – $13.99

If you’re interested in buying extra pairs of JoyCon 2 controllers for multiplayer gaming or as spares in case your current ones malfunction (though Nintendo claims these new JoyCons are more durable, it’s always good to have a backup), they are now available. At the moment, only one color combination is offered for the JoyCon 2 controllers. They will come with straps, but if you need additional straps, those can also be purchased separately.

JOYCON 2 CHARGING GRIP – $39.99

Similar to the initial Nintendo Switch, you can acquire an independent charging grip for your JoyCon 2 controllers as well, if you wish to play with them while they are being charged. This grip functions in a manner similar to the standard non-charging JoyCon 2 grip that is included with the Switch 2 console, featuring additional GL and GR paddle buttons which allow players to assign any button or action to these for a more customized gaming experience. Moreover, this grip will enable you to save a specific profile for each game you play.

JOYCON 2 WHEEL – $24.99

Nintendo often includes steering wheel controllers with its consoles, and this trend continues with the Switch 2. Alongside JoyCon 2 controllers, you’ll also find JoyCon 2 steering wheels in your package, available in two colors – red and blue. Given that Mario Kart World is expected to be the flagship title for the Switch 2 launch, many gamers might opt for this steering wheel accessory (which can be used with other racing games too).

NINTENDO SWITCH 2 CAMERA – $54.99

One notable feature for the Switch 2, according to Nintendo, is Game Chat – a voice and video chat service available to Switch 2 users via a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. While video chatting necessitates a camera, the Switch 2 doesn’t come with one built-in. However, you can purchase one separately if you find this feature appealing. Interestingly, it appears that Nintendo intends to incorporate this accessory in several games from the get-go. For instance, “Mario Kart World” and “Super Mario Party Jamboree” will support it upon release and update respectively. Therefore, if you decide to acquire it, you should find numerous opportunities to utilize it.

HORI’S PIRANHA PLANT CAMERA FOR NINTENDO SWITCH 2 – $59.99

If you’re looking for a fun, unique alternative to the Switch 2 Camera, consider the Piranha Plant Camera from Hori, an authorized third-party vendor. This special edition camera is designed in the shape of Super Mario’s famous Piranha Plant character for the console.

GAMECUBE CONTROLLER – $64.99

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 subscription service will introduce a fresh collection of retro games, including titles from the GameCube console. Fans have long hoped for GameCube compatibility on Nintendo consoles, so it’s exciting to see this wish becoming reality. Similar to other home consoles integrated into the Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo plans to release replicas of authentic GameCube controllers for purchase by subscribers who want an even more immersive nostalgic experience. These new controllers will share the C button feature with all other Switch 2 controllers. Interestingly, the GameCube controller for the Switch 2 will be distinct from the ones Nintendo has been selling over the past decade for Smash players; these older controllers can still be used with the GameCube games, but they lack the new controller’s wireless functionality and C button.

NINTENDO SWITCH 2 DOCK – $119.99

The new Switch 2 model will undoubtedly include a dock when you purchase it. However, if you ever require extra or replacement docks, you can buy them separately, similar to how it worked for the original Switch. It’s essential to note that the docks for the Switch 1 are not compatible with the Switch 2, and vice versa.

CARRYING CASES

For numerous users, carrying cases are indispensable accessories for portable consoles like the Switch 2. Fortunately, first-party official cases, including a carry case and screen protector, are offered by Nintendo themselves. In addition to this, they also sell a larger All-in-one carrying case that accommodates dock cables, controllers, game cards, and more in one place. However, if you prefer third-party alternatives, there’s no shortage of those options as well.

SAMSUNG MICROSD EXPRESS CARD – 256 GB FOR NINTENDO SWITCH 2 – $59.99

The Switch 2, like most modern gaming systems, includes an internal SSD for faster game loading times and streaming. However, expanding storage on this console can be tricky due to its hybrid design, which makes it difficult to use large SSD enclosures. Instead, the Switch 2 supports MicroSD Express cards, which have exceptionally fast data transfer speeds similar to an SSD. Only these specific MicroSD Express cards will work with the Switch 2 for storage expansion; standard microSD cards can only be used for saving screenshots and videos. At present, these cards are relatively expensive, but as they become more popular, their prices should decrease significantly over time.

NINTENDO SWITCH ACCESSORIES COMPATIBILITY

The key takeaway for Switch 2 accessories is that the vast majority of what you already own, such as controllers and accessories, will work seamlessly on the Switch 2, excluding a few obvious exceptions. For example, microSD cards won’t function beyond their limited capacity in the Switch 2, and your old Switch 1 carrying cases or screen protectors won’t fit due to the larger size of the Switch 2. However, many features will not be accessible with certain accessories because they were not available on the original Switch 1. For instance, while your old Switch 1 JoyCons can work with the Switch 2, you won’t be able to use C button-related features as there is no C button on the Switch 2. Similarly, you can still utilize your Switch 1 Pro Controller with the Switch 2, but it won’t be able to power on the console. In essence, if you’re not eager to invest a lot of money in new accessories, given that they will likely be expensive, then you don’t have to. Most of what you already own should work fine, albeit with some limitations.
