At the CES 2025 event, accessory manufacturer Genki unexpectedly garnered a lot of interest when they shared additional information about the speculated Nintendo Switch 2. IGN reported that Genki wasn’t anticipating such attention as they didn’t think they were revealing anything not already disclosed to the public.
“I didn’t expect this much media attention, to be honest,” said a Genki representative to IGN.
Due to the company showcasing a prototype model of the Switch 2, further information about the device’s size, particularly the system itself and its JoyCon controllers, has been revealed. It appears that the Switch 2 may be significantly bigger compared to the initial Nintendo Switch model.
The proposed design for the Switch 2 is noticeably wider than the current OLED Nintendo Switch, measuring approximately an inch more at 10.5 inches in width. Additionally, the Switch 2 appears to be slightly taller, standing at 4.5 inches compared to the original’s 4-inch height. This size increase also translates to a larger display for the Switch 2, boasting an 8-inch screen compared to the 7-inch screen on the current model. Remarkably, both versions seem to maintain the same thickness.
The prototype of the Switch 2 enabled IGN to assess the device’s comfort features, such as the multiple clickable buttons scattered throughout the system. Notably, its JoyCons are magnetically attached to the core unit of the Switch 2 and feature metallic SL/SR buttons. The method for extending the JoyCons appears to have been modified, with a larger button beneath the triggers now present to aid this process.
Genki’s representative pointed out that the Switch 2 seems to be compatible with the original Switch dock, but they were unable to make it function due to the distinct groove patterns on both devices. Interestingly, it is said that the Switch 2 might feature an extra USB-C port positioned at the top, which enables charging of the device while using it in handheld mode.
Though Genki has yet to disclose any specific technical aspects about the Switch 2, there have been recent hints suggesting that this next-gen console may incorporate its own version of DLSS-like technology, enhancing image quality for high-resolution output.
Lately, the potential logo for the Nintendo Switch 2 has been unveiled, allegedly by Felipe Lima, who is well-known for leaking information about Nintendo products. The design seems reminiscent of the original Switch’s logo, but features a large number ‘2’, indicating that it will be an upgraded console.
It has been suggested through various leaks that the upcoming Switch 2 model may demand more power compared to its previous version, potentially necessitating a more potent charger for its docking station.
