Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive RPG Potentially Cancelled

Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive RPG Potentially Cancelled

As a long-time Nintendo gamer, I’ve grown accustomed to the rollercoaster of anticipation and disappointment that comes with rumors about upcoming games. The latest whispers about the cancellation of an unnamed sequel to a highly anticipated game has left me feeling a bit like Epona without Link – lost and a tad empty inside.

According to recent news, it appears that a game initially planned as an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2 has reportedly been scrapped. This title was set to debut in 2022, a year filled with notable releases such as Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3, Persona 5 Royal, Pokemon Legends Arceus, Bayonetta 3, Portal Companion Collection, Chained Echoes, NieR Automata, Tunic, Neon White, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Inscryption, It Takes Two, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and numerous other games. To add to the excitement for tactical role-playing fans, Triangle Strategy also came out that year, initially exclusive to the Switch, and later released on PC as well.

Although Square Enix has not officially announced a sequel to this game yet, a recent report suggests that one was in development before it was unexpectedly cancelled, as per the same source. A new rumor about the project’s resurgence has surfaced from an X account named Ryan from the Bronx, who is known for being a reliable leaker under the former name Midori.

The individual who leaked information didn’t reveal many details about the project that was recently terminated, but they did confirm it was legitimate before its cancellation. There’s no information available regarding its development timeline or intended release date. Additionally, there’s no hint about which platforms it was designed for, though since the original game was a Nintendo exclusive, it’s likely that a Nintendo Switch 2 edition was being planned given the projected release dates of both the game and the Nintendo Switch 2. However, this is all speculative.

As always, take the speculation — and the rumor that the speculation is derived from — with a pinch of salt. Right now, there is no way to verify either. That said, the source in question is fairly reliable.

Currently, neither Square Enix, Nintendo, nor any members of the original game’s development team have offered comments regarding this rumor or speculation. It’s unlikely that this situation will change soon, but should anything new emerge, we will promptly update our report.
