Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Games May Include Remake of One of the Best PS1 Games

As a seasoned gamer with memories of popping PS1 cartridges into my trusty console, the idea of a Final Fantasy IX remake for the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 is nothing short of exhilarating! If you recall, I was among the many who marveled at its 93 Metacritic score back in 2000, alongside classics like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 and Metal Gear Solid.

It’s been suggested that the initial game to launch with the Nintendo Switch 2 could be a remake of one of the top PlayStation 1 games ever made, according to recent reports. This classic PlayStation 1 title dates back to the year 2000. In that year, video gaming history was made with the release of iconic titles such as Metal Gear Solid, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, Perfect Dark, Deus Ex, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Jet Set Radio, The Sims, Phantasy Star Online, Diablo II, Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, Chrono Cross, SSX, Paper Mario, Banjo-Tooie, Spyro: Year of the Dragon, Mario Tennis, Crazy Taxi, Excitebike 64, Counter-Strike, and numerous others.

2000 saw the launch of one of the top-tier Final Fantasy games. Although Final Fantasy 7 is considered the pinnacle of the series and remains significant due to ongoing remakes, many fans favor Final Fantasy IX. At its initial release, it earned a Metacritic score of 93.

Ever since its initial launch, I’ve been re-living the magic on various platforms over the years – first as a PlayStation Store classic for PS3, PSP, and later Vita owners in 2010, with added support for Vita in 2012. Fast forward a few years, and an enhanced version made its way onto PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Yet, it’s never experienced the touch of a remaster, let alone a full-blown remake. But now, it seems this beloved game is getting the remake treatment!

According to renowned leaker Samus Hunter, there’s a strong possibility that the Final Fantasy IX Remake is being developed specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2 and may even be available at the time of its release on the new console.

A Reddit post is currently gaining attention. The hardware details align with what’s been discussed for several months, but contrary to expectations, the game featuring a ‘9’ isn’t Mario Kart and won’t be introduced as a launch title, according to the source. As for Final Fantasy IX Remake, it’s set to release soon, but there’s no news yet about any special editions or bundles.

While there’s no definitive confirmation that Final Fantasy IX Remake will debut on the rumored Nintendo Switch 2, it certainly seems plausible based on hints. However, it’s essential to approach this speculation with caution. After all, none of this information has been officially verified. That being said, Samus Hunter, who has shown reliability in the past, was the one who leaked the Xenoblade Chronicles X Nintendo Switch remaster a day before its official announcement, so their prediction might carry some weight.

Currently, neither Nintendo nor Square Enix has made any statement regarding this rumor. It’s unlikely that they will comment on it, though there are several reasons for our assumption. If anything changes, we’ll promptly update the story.
