Nintendo Switch 2 preorders delayed in US due to tariffs, expect similar problems for future Xbox hardware

According to statements made to reporters on Friday, Nintendo has decided to postpone the pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States.

As per Nintendo’s announcement, the launch of preorders, which was scheduled for April 9, 2025, has been postponed due to the ongoing evaluation of the trade scenario in the United States, where tariffs have been imposed on many other nations.

In simpler terms, the planned launch date for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States remains unchanged, with June 5, 2025 being the scheduled release day.

For the foreseeable time, gamers might encounter increased hardware disruptions, price hikes, and overall confusion. This is because the Trump administration in the U.S. continues to enforce high tariffs on manufacturing hubs such as China and Vietnam, where a significant portion of gaming consoles are produced.

Currently, it appears unlikely that Xbox and PlayStation will escape being affected by tariffs.

The device in question is the forthcoming Xbox-branded handheld by ASUS, which was earlier mentioned by Windows Central prior to a hint dropped by both parties.

Microsoft is additionally developing an entirely self-made portable Xbox device, but it’s important to note that this endeavor is yet a few years from completion.

Previously, Nintendo unveiled the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, priced at $449 in the U.S., or a $500 bundle that comes with Mario Kart World (normally priced at $80). However, it remains to be seen if these products will experience price adjustments prior to their launch date.

This is a developing story.
