Nintendo Switch 2 to Have Multi-Phase Release Strategy for its Games – Rumour

As Nintendo prepares for an official presentation centered on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, the firm has been relatively tight-lipped regarding what software, hardware, and release date details we can anticipate for this new system. A fresh report by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson hints that Nintendo may be aiming for a June launch for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Additionally, the report hints at a more organized approach for the debut of games on the Nintendo Switch 2. Unlike the initial Switch which featured a blend of first-party and third-party titles upon its release, it appears that the Switch 2 will unveil games in three separate stages or phases.

Initially, we’ll concentrate mainly on Nintendo’s own video games during the console’s debut. This initial stage is expected to be during the console launch, with many popular Nintendo series likely getting new games. Subsequently, around October-November, it appears that third-party games for the Switch 2 will become available. The specifics of the third phase are unclear, but it seems to align with the holiday season in December and January.

It’s worth mentioning that numerous developers who conversed with Henderson at GDC 2025 disclosed they hadn’t received the development kits for the Switch 2 as of yet. These developers anticipate receiving the hardware concurrently with the Switch 2’s launch in June.

If rumors about a June launch are true, Nintendo appears to be making preparations to prevent stock shortages by sending out the Switch 2 ahead of time. An earlier report suggested that the company had begun shipping the console to North America. According to this report, Vietnamese manufacturer HVBG exported approximately 383,000 completed units of the Switch 2 to the United States, with a US/Canada region code of USZ.

It appears that Nintendo may be developing additional accessories specifically for the upcoming Switch 2, as suggested by a recent FCC filing. This new accessory appears to be a GameCube controller tailored for the new console, with its listing ID of BEE-021 pointing towards a potential connection to the Switch 2. The use of the BEE prefix in this product’s identification is significant because it has been associated with products related to the Switch 2, while the original Switch used the HAC prefix.

In January, Nintendo gave us our first glimpse at the Nintendo Switch 2 via a company video release. Although specifics weren’t fully disclosed then, we did catch a sneak peek of the console’s design and how it would feature a novel method for attaching and detaching its JoyCon controllers. Moreover, the color scheme for the Switch 2 appears to be less vibrant compared to the original model.

One of the verified characteristics of the latest console includes a bigger screen and an enigmatic ‘C’ button. Although its function is still unknown, a patent suggests it could be related to seamless voice chat integration at the operating system level.
