Nintendo Switch 2 Will See Support From Amazon Games

As someone who’s been through the rollercoaster ride that is the evolution of gaming consoles, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation mixed with cautious optimism about the upcoming Nintendo Switch successor. The Switch has been an absolute game-changer (pun intended), and its continued support from third-party developers like Amazon Games is a testament to its success.

Historically, Nintendo systems have faced inconsistent backing from external game developers and publishers. However, the Nintendo Switch bucked this trend, while previous systems like the Wii and Wii U failed to attract the same level of support as competitors such as PlayStation and Xbox. Fortunately, it appears that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will maintain robust support from various companies, even those that have already released games for its current version. In an interview with IGN, Amazon Games vice president Christoph Hartmann expressed his excitement towards the rumored “Switch 2” and confirmed Amazon’s commitment to backing the platform.

Hartmann expressed his excitement about creating games for the upcoming product, eagerly anticipating its release. He prefers a delay of a year to ensure it’s flawless rather than rushing it and dealing with complaints later. He believes that the Switch has been an exceptional device, and he’s willing to wait another year if necessary. Additionally, Hartmann noted that many developers outside Nintendo are not solely focusing on titles for the Switch. Instead, they view it as part of a diverse portfolio or mix of platforms. In essence, be patient.

Currently, there’s no definite timeline for when the new Nintendo system is set to launch. However, we can confirm that an official announcement about the system is expected to occur within the next seven months, wrapping up before the company’s financial year concludes. Despite earlier speculation, it seems that the console may not be released until after this period. Some recent whispers hint at a potential release date in April or May 2025.

Despite Nintendo not providing extensive details on their upcoming system yet, there has been no shortage of third-parties alluding to their plans for the Switch 2. Over the past year, a number of companies have spoken vaguely about the new system, including Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who fielded questions regarding the possibility (or advisability) of the Switch 2 being compatible with existing games.

Presently, there’s no doubt that gaming enthusiasts, including major companies, are anxiously anticipating a new system announcement from Nintendo. When Switch 2 eventually launches, we hope it justifies the wait, given how exceptional the current system has been beyond expectations. It will be intriguing to observe if Nintendo can sustain its impressive momentum with the upcoming release.
