It appears Nintendo is making an effort to discourage Japanese consumers from purchasing the Switch 2 primarily for resale in other countries. This was noticed by ResetEra user ZeroDS, as Nintendo has reportedly set a higher price of ¥20,000 for a Japanese version of the Switch 2 that includes multiple languages.
In contrast to the standard Japanese Nintendo Switch 2, which retails for ¥49,980, its multilingual version costs ¥69,990. This pricing difference may be due to an attempt to discourage unauthorized exportation of the console after obtaining it at a lower price within Japan.
It’s important to mention that, although the cost of extra language support on Switch 2 might be steep in Japan, it will mainly impact a tiny fraction of potential consumers. This high pricing allows the company to keep offering competitive prices in the Japanese market without facing issues related to stock scarcity due to scalpers.
On June 5th, you’ll find the latest Nintendo Switch (version 2) on store shelves. This new model will debut simultaneously with several games and an opportunity for players to enhance certain Switch games to take full advantage of the improved hardware in the Switch 2.
