Nintendo Switch Games Will Seemingly Get Enhanced “Switch 2 Edition” Releases

Could it be possible that Nintendo may also implement cross-generation improvements for earlier generation games when played on the new Switch 2, much like how Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox have done in their multi-generational transitions?

It appears that the new game sharing Virtual Cards system introduced by Nintendo might indeed offer enhanced versions of games originally available on Switch 1 for the Switch 2. This is suggested by some fine print found at the bottom of their official webpage.

To enjoy virtual game cards, it’s essential that your compatible system is connected to a Nintendo Account. Please note that exclusive games for the Nintendo Switch 2 and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition can only be played on the Nintendo Switch 2 system itself.

By distinguishing between “Switch 2 exclusive” games and “Switch 2 Edition” games, Nintendo might be hinting at two different categories: native games developed specifically for the upcoming Switch 2 console with the former, and enhanced or remastered versions of existing Switch 1 titles in the latter. However, it’s still unclear whether every Switch 1 game will receive an upgrade or if this will depend on the decision of each developer/publisher.

As a dedicated Nintendo enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that we’ve got an exciting Nintendo Direct event coming up on April 2! This special presentation is all about the anticipated Switch 2, so get ready for a flood of juicy details very soon. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates as they come!
