Nintendo Switch Has Sold 143.42 Million Units Worldwide

As a gamer who has been around since the days of the original Nintendo Entertainment System, I must say, I’ve seen it all – from the Game Boy Advance to the Wii U, and now the Nintendo Switch. It’s been quite a journey!

For the first quarter of their fiscal year concluding March 2025, Nintendo announced their financial report. They confirmed that as of June 30th, 2024, they had sold approximately 143.42 million Nintendo Switches worldwide, with 2.1 million units sold in the preceding three months.

Despite a significant decrease of 46.3% in console unit sales compared to the previous year, software sales reached 30.64 million units in Q1 of fiscal year 2025, marking a drop of 41.3%. The company attributed this decline to the fact that the same quarter last year saw exceptional performance due to “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and the launch of “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”.

For this year’s first financial quarter, there were fewer extraordinary circumstances contributing to the results. As we approach the eighth year of the console’s lifespan and the announcement of its successor by March 31st, 2025, it’s reasonable to expect a decrease in sales. The launch date for the Switch’s replacement is still unclear, but whispers suggest that it might debut in March 2025, possibly coinciding with the release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
