As a seasoned gamer with memories of countless hours spent navigating the vibrant world of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest etched into my gaming past, I must say, Nintendo has managed to sprinkle a bit of nostalgia dust on my Switch screen yet again. The addition of profile icons based on this beloved SNES gem is not just a welcome touch but a testament to the enduring appeal of these classic games.
For Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, there are some fresh, complimentary offerings to commemorate one of the most cherished Super NES games ever made – “Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest.” Among these freebies is a collection of game-themed profile icons, each priced at 10 Platinum points. To access these icons, players must first launch “DKC 2” through the Nintendo Switch Online SNES application. Interestingly, you don’t need to spend much time playing the game; it seems that merely opening it from the SNES menu within the app is enough to unlock this option.
The profile emblems are accessible until December 2nd. By simply playing ‘Donkey Kong Country 2’, players earn 50 Platinum points, falling slightly short of the total 80 points required to collect all 8 emblems. Some images of these emblems can be found further down.
In the character icons for “Donkey Kong Country 2”, you’ll find a variety of game characters such as Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, King K. Rool, Rattly, Squawks, and Enguarde. It’s great to see Enguarde included this time around, as he was unfortunately overlooked in the icon set for the original game. However, it’s disappointing that there are currently no background options based on either game, leaving Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to settle for a plain colored backdrop, which seems like a lost chance for more immersion.
Beyond the character emblems inspired by “Donkey Kong Country 2”, the game’s music has also been incorporated into the Nintendo Music app for both iOS and Android devices. This might be new information for those not keeping up with recent updates, as the Nintendo Music app is accessible at no extra cost to subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online. Launched with a variety of soundtracks from iconic and contemporary Nintendo games, it now includes the original “Donkey Kong Country”. Previously, “DKC 2” was absent, but that oversight has been corrected. This is exciting news since “DKC 2” marked the comeback of composer David Wise, who created many memorable tracks for the game. The track “Stickerbrush Symphony (Bramble Blast)” from the DKC series is particularly noteworthy, making its inclusion in Nintendo Music quite welcome!

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel excited about the recent addition of profile icons and soundtracks for the first two Donkey Kong Country games on Nintendo Switch Online. Given the enduring popularity of the Donkey Kong Country trilogy on SNES, it seems only natural to expect that Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble will receive similar treatment in the near future.
