Nintendo Switch Online Has a New Free Surprise for Mario Kart World Fans

For Mario Kart fans on Nintendo Switch Online, there’s a fresh, complimentary surprise in store! The long-awaited release of the Nintendo Switch 2 took place this week along with a brand new Mario Kart game, Mario Kart World, which serves as the console’s flagship title upon launch. Given that this is the only significant game launched alongside the Nintendo Switch 2, it seems fitting that Nintendo has prepared a special gift for Mario Kart World – a free offer exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Unlike some other benefits offered by Nintendo Switch Online, such as access to GameCube games, this new offer isn’t limited to Expansion Pack subscribers but is accessible to all tiers of NSO subscribers!

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can now obtain a variety of NSO icons depicting characters like Mario, Peach, and Bowser, among others. These icons can be downloaded on both the original Nintendo Switch and future models, such as the Nintendo Switch 2. The icons range from 5 to 10 Platinum Points each to redeem.

These icons will be distributed in seven separate waves, with each wave lasting one week. The first wave is available until June 11, and the final wave concludes on July 23.

Once removed, each icon will be inaccessible, and although Nintendo occasionally releases new icons, this rarely occurs, and usually when they do, a second release is restricted to owning the corresponding game.

Or, more informally:

Once deleted, each icon won’t be usable anymore, and while Nintendo sometimes puts out new icons, it doesn’t happen often. When they do, you typically need to own the related game in order to access the additional icons.

In the upcoming waves, figures of characters like Luigi, Daisy, Rosalina, Bowser Jr., Donkey Kong, Paulina, Shy Guy, Wario, King Boo, Birdo, Yoshi, and Cow will be included. Interestingly, there are several other characters conspicuously absent. Despite this, if you observe the roadmap image below, it’s clear that not every character from the first wave is depicted, suggesting that future waves may introduce more characters.

As a gaming enthusiast, let me share some exciting news for fellow gamers out there! The icons you see here mark the beginning of the Nintendo Switch 2 era in the online world. The future is uncertain, but we might soon be graced with Donkey Kong Bananza icons since Nintendo Switch 2 officially launches on July 17th. Stay tuned for more updates!
