As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Nintendo’s latest financial report has left me somewhat perplexed. While the Switch reaching 146.04 million units sold is certainly an impressive feat, the downward trend in hardware and software sales this fiscal year is concerning.
For the second quarter of its 2025 fiscal year, ending September 30th, 2024, Nintendo revealed that a total of 146.04 million Nintendo Switch units have been sold since their launch. This number represents an increase from the 143.42 million units sold during the preceding quarter, with another 2.62 million consoles being added to that figure in this recent period.
Although we’ve achieved a significant achievement, our hardware sales for this fiscal year have decreased by 31% compared to last year. Sales of the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite have increased by 0.7% and 7.5%, respectively. However, sales of the Switch (OLED) model have dropped by 46.8%. During the recent quarter, software sales totaled 39.64 million units, but the year-to-date figure has decreased by 27.6% compared to last year.
Nintendo has revised its sales projections for this fiscal year, predicting they will sell approximately 12.4 million Nintendo Switches and 155 million software titles. It’s worth noting that they are also working on a new Nintendo Switch model, with a planned announcement taking place by March 31st, 2025.
