It’s possible that Nintendo could be preparing for a new Direct presentation, with the main focus being on third-party games for the Nintendo Switch. As per Jeff Grubb’s report, this potential Direct is slated for some time in February, which seems to be earlier than the previously announced April 2nd Direct focusing on the Nintendo Switch 2. Given this timeline, it appears that this upcoming presentation might primarily concern planned releases for the current Nintendo Switch model.
In the latest episode of his Game Mess podcast, Grubb mentioned that he’s been informed there might be a Nintendo Direct this month. While the details are scant, it’s something to look forward to. A highly trusted source confirmed it, and when I asked for clarification, they affirmed it again.
Instead, it’s anticipated that the upcoming Direct may not be a grand event for diehard Nintendo enthusiasts of their exclusive first-party games. Instead, it seems more like a modest Direct focused on presenting various third-party and independent games.
He stated, “Does that imply a massive event, a colossal Direct, that offers solutions to every question? I highly doubt it.” But, he continued, “I believe there will be some sort of smaller event – perhaps a minidirect, a partner presentation, or something similar.
Here’s another way to phrase it: “This might not materialize due to the upcoming release of Switch 2 and the already scheduled Direct for it. The situation is peculiar, so it’s hard to predict the exact outcome. However, I have a feeling that some development will take place.
Grubb queries about the upcoming game, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, as it remains uncertain due to Nintendo’s limited updates on the project. In a recent shareholders meeting, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the game is still targeting a release in 2025.
Furukawa made clear that Nintendo intends to roll out appealing software whenever possible on the original Nintendo Switch. As of now, only Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been confirmed for the Switch. Given that the new Nintendo Switch model will support backward compatibility with Switch games, it’s expected that this title will also be playable on the upcoming console.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but feel proud when I reflect on my Nintendo Switch. Just this month, they shared some incredible news – over 150 million Switches have been sold worldwide! That’s an impressive figure if you ask me. In the three months leading up to their recent earnings report, a staggering 4.82 million more units found loving homes like mine.
But wait, there’s more! During that same period, a whopping 53.7 million software packages also flew off the shelves. That’s a lot of gaming fun being shared across the globe!
Further information regarding the Switch 2 is anticipated to surface in April. Until then, there’s a buzz surrounding potential games for the upcoming console, with talks suggesting a possible return of the Fable series from Microsoft.
