Nintendo has shared that they plan to attend Gamescom 2025. This announcement came through their German Twitter account, confirming their participation at the event taking place from August 20th to August 24th. So, save that date in red on your calendar, as Nintendo will be back at Gamescom in 2025! We’re excited to see you there from August 20th to August 24th in Cologne!
As a devoted fan, it’s important to acknowledge that last year, Nintendo chose to bypass Gamescom. Speaking from my perspective as a representative of Nintendo of Europe, I can say that this iconic event holds significant importance in our annual schedule. Yet, after thorough deliberation, we’ve opted not to attend Cologne this year. Instead, gamers will have the opportunity to experiment with Nintendo Switch games at various other events scattered across Germany.
It’s plausible that the reason the company is planning to participate in this year’s gaming event is because they are about to launch a new console. At Gamescom, we could potentially witness Nintendo revealing some fresh developments related to the Switch 2 and providing attendees with an opportunity to sample their upcoming games.
It’s worth noting that Nintendo utilized Gamescom 2023 as an opportunity to present tech demos for the upcoming Switch 2. These demonstrations took place in private settings and featured games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was displayed running at 4K/60 FPS on the new console. Additionally, Epic’s The Matrix Awakens demo was showcased, suggesting that the demo might have been in its early stages during this time.
Nintendo is gearing up for the release of the Switch 2 on June 5th. They have an array of games lined up for the console’s debut, such as “Mario Kart: World”, “Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition”, and “Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour”. The launch is generating a lot of buzz, with some analysts, like DFC Intelligence, even labeling it as the most significant console debut in history.
The postponement of GTA 6 from its initial Fall 2025 release date to May 26, 2026 will likely lead to continued drops in sales for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Additionally, the company thinks that Nintendo’s prediction of selling 15 million Switch 2 units in its first year is underestimated.
As a gamer speaking about Nintendo’s president, I’d say: “I, as the head of Nintendo, admit that our sales projections for the Switch 2 might be on the conservative side. The reason being, we understand the higher price tag of the Switch 2 could present some challenges in its initial widespread acceptance.
Furukawa added that the conservative sales projections didn’t stem from anticipated difficulties in manufacturing enough consoles. Instead, he clarified, “These sales estimates were not reliant on production capacity constraints.” Furthermore, neither the US tariffs nor economic downturn concerns have impacted their forecast. To meet the goal of selling 15 million units, we will need to produce even more than that amount.
Rot im Kalender anstreichen: Nintendo ist 2025 wieder auf der @gamescom. Wir freuen uns, euch vom 20. bis 24. August in Köln begrüßen zu dürfen!
