As a seasoned gamer with memories of the original Nintendo Switch still fresh in my mind, I find myself eagerly anticipating the rumored Direct that could be dropping as early as this coming week. With the potential for a new console on the horizon, it seems like an opportune time for Nintendo to share some exciting news.
As a longtime Nintendo enthusiast who has closely followed their release schedule for decades, I have to say that the rumor about a possible Direct presentation in August this year caught my attention. Traditionally, Nintendo tends to hold its major Direct events in September, but given the anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s not entirely surprising that they might be considering an earlier date.
When Is Nintendo’s Next Direct?
Currently, Nintendo has not yet confirmed the exact date for their next Direct presentation. However, speculations are circulating that it could occur within the upcoming week, potentially on a day between August 27th and August 29th. It’s worth noting that since 2017, Nintendo has skipped major Direct events in August, although they have held some presentations during this timeframe.
Previously, an exclusive “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” Direct was scheduled for the last day of August. Notably, Nintendo has previously hosted their “Indie World” streams during the final days of August, usually preceding PAX West. As PAX West 2024 is happening this upcoming weekend, there’s a possibility that these recent Nintendo Direct rumors might be connected to the next version of this broadcast.
How Nintendo Switch 2 Changes Nintendo’s Plans
If a significant, regular Direct event were to occur within the next week, it seems to be happening sooner than anticipated due to the rumored Switch 2. Just as this speculated Direct, Nintendo has not officially confirmed that they are preparing for the release of the Switch 2. However, they have indicated in 2024 that they are developing new hardware, which they plan to reveal to the public at some point in the near future.
Given Nintendo’s historical pattern with the launch of the original Switch, it’s likely that we might see the announcement of the Switch 2 this fall. If so, Nintendo may decide to move up their September Direct event slightly to accommodate the presentation of the Switch 2. However, the reveal of the Switch 2 could be a smaller-scale unveiling, serving as an introduction to a larger hardware showcase later on. This was similar to the initial release of the original Nintendo Switch, which was first shown through a commercial that merely highlighted the hardware.
At the moment, it’s tough to predict exactly what Nintendo might be planning. There’s a lot of speculation floating around, so remember to treat information from online “insiders” with some skepticism. If any of these current rumors are accurate, then we might see a new Direct announcement in the near future, which could pave the way for the unveiling of Switch 2 shortly thereafter.
