Nioh 3 Introduces New Combat Styles, Deflect, and Open Field Levels

The action game Nioh 3 by Team Ninja signals a significant comeback, having been released almost six years since the previous installment. As of now, you can try out a free demo on PS5, and the trailer showcases the new Ninja Style. But, let’s discuss what this new style entails?

Discovering an exciting revelation, I found that there are two distinct playstyles at my disposal, which I can switch between on the fly. One of them is the Samurai Style, granting me the power to intensify my Martial Arts techniques and deflect attacks by skillfully blocking right before they land. On the other hand, the Ninja Style focuses more on agility, enabling me to perform swift maneuvers such as Evade to dodge enemy attacks, and employ abilities like Mist, which lets me create a decoy after an attack.

You can consistently choose one type, yet they can swiftly change at any moment, a feature that might offer an advantage against particular opponents. Despite the toughness of past games in this series, Team Ninja assures us “we’re creating some of our toughest enemies yet!

Additionally, it provides additional information about the open field stages, which offer a fresh opportunity for exploration, enhancing the distinctive tension and conflicts that have marked the Nioh series as its unique selling points. Although not an open world, you can now roam through villages, discover hidden mysteries, and fight Yokai with a greater degree of freedom compared to previous versions. To top it off, The Crucible is making a comeback.

Nioh 3 will be available for PS5 and PC in early 2026. Stay tuned for updates in the meantime.
