Nioh Series Crosses 8 Million Copies Sold

The action RPG series from Team Ninja known as Nioh has surpassed a significant sales milestone, having sold over eight million copies globally between both titles. Previously, Koei Tecmo CEO and founder Yoichi Erikawa hinted at this figure back in February, stating they were close to reaching it.

2017 saw the debut of the game titled Nioh, which centers around William Adams, a character who journeys to Japan during the Sengoku era in search of his Guardian Spirit. His path crosses with supernatural beings known as Yokai and encounters significant historical figures such as Tokugawa Ieyasu, Hattori Hanzō, Date Masamune, and even Yasuke. The game earned praise for its innovative takes on the Souls-like genre, its demanding difficulty, and intense, skill-based combat.

After achieving great success, Team Ninja launched Nioh 2 in 2020, featuring a character named Hidechiyo who could shape-shift into a Yokai. Notable enhancements to the already robust combat system were introduced, as well as new features like Yokai Transformations and Burst Counters.

These games are compatible with both PS4, PS5, and PC platforms. You have the option to purchase each individually or as part of “The Nioh Collection”. For more insights about the collection version, you can read our review right here.

As of now, neither Team Ninja nor Koei Tecmo have announced any plans for a third installment in the Nioh series. At present, Team Ninja is collaborating with PlatinumGames on Ninja Gaiden 4, scheduled to release later this year on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
