Team Ninja has been keeping themselves occupied with projects such as “Rise of the Ronin” (scheduled for PC release in March), “Ninja Gaiden 2 Black”, and the forthcoming “Ninja Gaiden 4”. Interestingly, the “Nioh” series is still thriving, as Koei Tecmo’s founder and CEO, Yoichi Erikawa, has confirmed that close to eight million copies of both titles in this series have been sold.
The latest milestone for this product was reached in October 2022, with more than seven million units sold globally. In an interview with Denfamicogame (translated by Automaton-Media), Erikawa shared that approximately 90% of these sales have occurred in Europe and North America. Additionally, it seems that the show “SHOGUN” on Disney+ has been garnering significant interest lately.
Historical dramas and games based on Japanese and Chinese history are gaining increasing popularity. In terms of manga and anime, historical pieces weren’t highly favored previously, but they’ve been growing in acceptance lately.
In 2017, the game titled Nioh debuted on PlayStation 4 and subsequently on PC and PS5. Its sequel, Nioh 2, was released in 2020. Both games were widely praised by critics for their challenging, merciless gameplay and sophisticated combat mechanics. Many of these features are reflected in the stances of Rise of the Ronin.
