As a seasoned gamer with decades of Pokemon adventures under my belt, I must say that the recent speculation about the TCG Advent Calendar revealing the starters for Pokemon Legends: Z-A is a bit premature, to say the least. The connection between the wrappers of the Advent Calendar and the upcoming game seems to be based more on hopeful conjecture rather than tangible evidence.
Some Pokemon fans are speculating that an upcoming TCG Advent Calendar has leaked the identities of Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s starter Pokemon, but that rumor is missing some key context. Copies of the annual Pokemon TCG Advent Calendar are hitting stores this week, and Pokemon fans are already cracking it open to see what’s inside. While the Advent Calendar does contain Pokemon cards, many are included in “fun packs” that contain 3 cards instead of 10 and also uses new wrappers. In this year’s Advent Calendar, there are fun packs featuring cards from the Temporal Forces expansion set. The wrappers for those Temporal Forces packs feature Turtwig, Litten, and Totodile, which some believe is a clue for the upcoming Pokemon Legends: ZA release.
2022’s Advent Calendar contained Astral Radiance booster packs, featuring images of Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott – the starting Pokémon from Pokémon Legends: Arceus. While some fans speculate a connection between the two packaging designs due to their shared starter lineups, there are two notable differences. Firstly, Astral Radiance was published after Pokémon Legends: Arceus and was explicitly designed to complement that game. Secondly, the Temporal Forces set includes these three Pokémon depicted on the booster packs, making their presence in the set. However, it’s worth noting that Temporal Forces has no connection whatsoever with Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
As a long-time fan of the Pokemon franchise, I must admit that I’ve grown quite accustomed to eagerly awaiting each new release. However, it seems like the wait for “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” is going to be longer than anticipated, with the game not expected until late 2025. This news has left me a bit disheartened, as I was looking forward to diving back into the world of Pokemon with a fresh title.
