Thomas Mahler, the creative director at Moon Studios, speculates that PlayStation could one day follow Xbox’s approach of making their games available across multiple platforms, as suggested by Xbox leader Phil Spencer. In a recent post on social media platform X, Mahler expressed his thoughts on this idea.
Mahler shared, “Some individuals often urge me to participate in the console warning, but I firmly hold that [Spencer] is on the right track.” They opted not to produce [No Rest for the Wicked] under Microsoft a few years ago because at the time they couldn’t have released it on PlayStation and Switch. Given the significance of multiplayer and crossplay, they chose instead to collaborate with Take2.
In the article, Mahler continues discussing his chats with Spencer regarding the essence of game console exclusivity, and he humorously points out that such a notion would have seemed absurd if it were extended to, say, movie DVDs.
In my correspondence with Phil throughout the years, I frequently discussed what a absurd scenario it would have been if specific DVDs could only be played on Sony players, while others required Samsung players and so forth. It seems to me that we can all concur that such a system would have been quite nonsensical for films. So, why do we consider games any less deserving of the same logic?
Later, Mahler emphasized that the fundamental structures of both Xbox and PlayStation consoles have become so similar that creating games for cross-platform launches is essentially no longer a significant challenge. Additionally, he noted that controller designs across various platforms have also become increasingly alike.
He went on to say, “For more than two decades, consoles have been limited to attracting around 100-150 million players. To expand the gaming industry, it’s crucial that we make it simpler for a larger audience to enjoy the content.
Mahler concludes the discussion by mentioning that Sony might opt for cross-platform game releases. He emphasizes the importance of consumers being free to choose their preferred hardware without missing out on games. Moreover, he suggests that Nintendo is likely to carry on with its unique approach, prioritizing in-house game development tailored for its exclusive hardware.
In his words, “I find it unlikely that Sony won’t adopt a similar strategy.” He suggests that consumers should choose the device they prefer, but they should also have access to a wide variety of content. And he acknowledges that Nintendo will continue to do things uniquely, as Nintendo often does, and that’s perfectly fine.
At present, Moon Studios is actively developing their action RPG titled “No Rest for the Wicked“. This game can be played on PC as an Early Access title. Since its debut, it has received numerous updates encompassing new content and resolving various technical issues. The game’s unique selling point is its isometric viewpoint, offering players a strategic vantage point to engage in combat while providing a comprehensive view of the battlefield.
Back in July 2024, I was thrilled to witness one of the most significant updates for my favorite game – No Rest For the Wicked. This update introduced an exciting new element, the post-game dungeon named Cerim Crucible. If you’re as excited as I am about this update, don’t miss out on our coverage detailing all the amazing changes it brought!

I know some people always want me to join the console warring, but I strongly believe that @XboxP3 has the right approach.
We decided a few years back not to make @wickedgame under Microsoft because back then we couldn’t have shipped it for PlayStation and Switch and since we…
