As a lifestyle expert with an eye for compelling television and a soft spot for heartwarming rom-coms, I wholeheartedly support a second season of Netflix’s “Nobody Wants This.” The unique blend of humor, romance, and cultural nuances makes it a standout in the genre.
Everybody does, in fact, want this.
This statement implies that we are referring to the upcoming second season of the popular romantic comedy series on Netflix titled “Nobody Wants This“. The series is written by Erin Foster and features Kristen Bell and Adam Brody as characters Joanne and Noah, a couple dealing with the complexities of their relationship. Noah is called to be a rabbi while Joanne is not Jewish, creating a conflict between them. (Be aware that this article may contain spoilers.)
However, following the season one finale where it appeared that Noah abandoned his religious vocation in favor of a romantic connection with Joanne – leaving some ambiguity for viewers – fans are eagerly anticipating further developments. Meanwhile, Erin is hopeful to satisfy these expectations.
She shared with IndieWire that we’ve been receiving very favorable feedback before our September 26 release. As a result, it seems like discussions about a possible second season are now underway.
The 42-year-old also hinted at what a second installment might include.
Erin mentioned that the plot in season one moved at a leisurely pace. If there’s a season two, she’d prefer it to carry on from where we left off, maintaining the steady pace. She doesn’t want us rushing things and moving too quickly.
As she quipped, “I want my show to be on the air as long as possible!”
Erin, who modeled the series somewhat on her real-life partnership with husband Simon Tikhman and even embraced his faith by converting to Judaism, also shared her thought process behind specific aspects of the show.
Discussing her rationale behind tackling the topic of Joanne’s conversion to Judaism, even though some in the network believed it might halt the narrative progression of the show.
She shared her frustration about TV shows where the solution seems obvious to the viewer: “Just ask the question!” Instead of providing an answer, she continued. “It’s like saying, ‘This problem could be easily solved by converting,’ but in reality, it’s not that simple. Converting isn’t a quick fix; it’s not as simple as just saying, ‘I’ll convert!’
As she explained, becoming a rabbi’s girlfriend or wife comes with significant life implications.
She pointed out that you should keep in mind that Joanne is someone who’s sincere and genuine. If she doesn’t genuinely believe something, she won’t pretend to live it. In the same vein, when I decided to convert, I told my then-fiancé, ‘If I don’t truly embrace this by the end, I won’t do it because it has to feel authentic.’ Joanne shares this conviction.
The alumna from O.C., who is David Foster’s daughter, also clarified why she chose a hopeful conclusion for Noah and Joanne in her story.
In my perspective, some creators opt to withhold what the audience expects, but this particular production isn’t one of them. Instead, I believe this show is designed to deliver exactly what you came for and more. The moment I envisioned crafting was one that resonates deeply: ‘We’ve chosen each other, yet we all know the sacrifices we make in doing so. How will we navigate these challenges together?’ This is the essence I aimed to convey through this production.
In her own words, “For me, that conclusion seemed both plausible and fulfilling, as it left room for future developments.
