Nosferatu’s Bill Skarsgard Teases “Really F–king Cool” Idea for Joker

As a die-hard comic book enthusiast and a passionate admirer of Bill Skarsgård’s acting prowess, I can’t help but feel electrified by the prospect of seeing him don the Joker‘s sinister grin. Growing up, Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime was a beacon for me, much like the Bat-Signal is to Gotham City. Skarsgård’s fascination with playing complex and unsettling characters resonates deeply with my own appreciation for the Joker’s dual nature – a charming, charismatic facade masking a twisted, malevolent soul.

The idea of Skarsgård collaborating with Andy Muschietti yet again is music to my ears. The chemistry they shared in the “It” films was undeniable, and I can only imagine what they could create together for the DC Universe. As for Skarsgård’s interest in playing Batman as well, well, that’s just the icing on the cake – or should I say, the Joker’s grin on the Bat-suit?

Barry Keoghan has already claimed the role of Batman’s villain for now, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that James Gunn will see the potential in Skarsgård and cast him as the official DCU’s Joker. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll witness a confrontation between Skarsgård’s Joker and Keoghan’s villain, and I can only imagine the chills that would send down my spine! After all, even in the darkest of times, laughter is the best medicine – especially when it comes from the Joker.

The horror film “Nosferatu” has just premiered, and Bill Skarsgård, who portrays Count Orlok in this movie, is causing quite a stir. Recognized for his chilling roles such as Pennywise from “It”, the actor recently engaged in an interview with Josh Horowitz on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast discussing his current work and future plans. The conversation inevitably veered towards superheroes since many enthusiasts are still hoping to see Skarsgård don the Joker’s persona at some point. To the excitement of fans, he also expressed interest in portraying Batman’s nemesis.

He confessed that within him, there seems to be a remarkably fascinating Joker character, perhaps hidden somewhere. He added that playing the villain in this role would be quite intriguing. This actor, who grew up loving comic books and had Batman as his favorite character, also mentioned that he might have the opportunity to collaborate with Andy Muschietti again. Muschietti is the director of the 2017 It adaptation, It Chapter Two (2019), and the upcoming spinoff It: Welcome to Derry, with whom Skarsgård has previously worked.

The director will soon take charge of “The Brave and the Bold”, a movie originally slated for release but now delayed. This film version is based on one of Batman’s tales, although it’s uncertain if the Joker will appear in this updated production, as Alexander Skarsgård has shown interest in portraying the Joker on screen. When asked about Muschietti being associated with the project, Skarsgård was tight-lipped, providing no clues to excite fans. “Yes, I’m not sure where he is with it, but yes, that was interesting,” he replied. It’s also worth noting that he’s suggested he might take on the role of Bruce Wayne too, which could be fitting given his dark portrayal in “The Crow”.

This actor, who played a role in “The Dark Knight” directed by Christopher Nolan, often looks up to Heath Ledger as his inspiration for portraying The Joker. At around 17 years old, he was deeply moved by Ledger’s performance and remembered it vividly. When Ledger passed away, it left a significant impact on him since the young actor admired everything about Ledger and aspired to follow in his footsteps. Even though there was criticism surrounding Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker at the time, many still consider his performance as the best representation of the villain to this day.

Alexander Skarsgård has openly shared that his choice of diverse and sometimes unsettling characters stems from a personal drive to embody roles that challenge him as an actor, as they don’t mirror his own personality. Over time, he has constructed a broad repertoire, encompassing entities such as Pennywise and Count Orlok, along with more villainous yet human characters like Roman Godfrey in Hemlock Grove and Clark Olofsson in Clark. Given his versatility, portraying a complex character like the Joker, who can fluctuate between extremes, appears to be a role he would excel in.

Given that Barry Keoghan portrays Batman’s nemesis in the 2022 movie and might reappear in future projects, it leaves fans eagerly anticipating if James Gunn will eventually think of Skarsgård as the definitive DC Universe’s Joker. Time will tell!
