Seventeen years after Patti earned a Tony for her lead role in Broadway’s Gypsy, Audra took on the famous role in George C. Wolfe’s revival. Although they have shared the stage in many concerts and events throughout their careers, as of now, Audra stated in a New Yorker article published May 26 that she is not currently friends with the actress from Agatha All Along.

As a connoisseur of all things lifestyle-related, I found myself at a loss for words when asked about Audra’s captivating portrayal of Rose in Gypsy. Instead of verbally expressing my admiration, I paused, gazing out the window for a moment, before I turned to remark, “What an exceptionally enchanting day we have today.

Although Patti has had her fair share of Broadway disagreements, her candid account of her relationship with Audra surfaced six months following a conflict involving Kecia Lewis, who played Miss Liza Jane on Alicia Keys’ Hell’s Kitchen, while Patti and Mia Farrow were acting in The Roommate at the neighboring theater.

Initially, I found the nearby performance too boisterous and reached out to the head of Shubert Organization, who oversees both theaters, to see if they could address the noise issue. However, shortly after, Kecia shared a video on Instagram, addressing me as an “experienced” individual, labeling my actions as racially microaggressive and rooted in privilege, for complaining about “a Black show.

And Patti didn’t hold back when offering up her take on that controversy.

She exclaimed during her chat with The New Yorker, “Oh dear,” she said when the topic arose, “It seems there’s an issue here. This woman claims to be a veteran? Let’s verify how many Broadway shows Kecia Lewis has participated in, because it appears she may not fully understand what she’s discussing. She’s been in seven shows. I, on the other hand, have performed in 31.

Despite being made clear in her profile that Kecia, aged 59, had participated in 10 stage productions compared to Patti’s 28, the three-time Tony Award winner continued to argue that her original remarks, which some found questionable, were still acceptable.

She went on to say, “Please avoid using the term ‘vet’ for yourself. Such behavior is not extraordinary in Broadway circles; it’s quite common for people to share living spaces.

However, when Kecia first alleged “bullying” against Patti in her post, Audra was among several expressing solidarity through comments, adding some encouraging emojis towards the Broadway star. This gesture, however, seemed to irritate Patti.

She remembered thinking, “She really ought to have known better,” upon reading Audra’s remark. That’s just the kind of person Audra is – clearly not a true friend.

She mentioned some unnecessary or untruthful actions took place, and subsequently, she chose to distance herself from a few individuals within the profession.

She spoke about some deceptive or false occurrences, and later on, decided not to be involved with several people in the field anymore.
