At its CES 2025 keynote, NVIDIA revealed their new line of GPUs, the RTX 5000 Blackwell series, which will consist of four models, scheduled for launch in Q1. The RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti are targeted towards mid-range users, with NVIDIA boasting impressive improvements on both cards. They claim that the 5070 can match the performance of the RTX 4090 due to advancements in DLSS 4’s multi-frame generation technology.
The new RTX 5070 hits shelves at $549, while the RTX 5070 Ti retails for $749. These cards will become available in February. However, the real attention-grabbers are the upcoming RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 models, as they both promise substantial enhancements over their previous versions.
As a tech enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the upcoming release of the RTX 5080, priced at $999 – the same as last year’s 4080 Super. However, the performance boost you get with the 5080 is a massive 2x! On the other hand, the RTX 5090, retailing for $1,999, marks NVIDIA’s most expensive GPU yet. Interestingly, the RTX 4090 launched at $1,599 in October 2022, but the RTX 5090 is said to be twice as potent as its previous version.
This graphics card boasts a massive memory of 32GB GDDR7, distributed over a 512-bit bus, resulting in an astonishing data transfer rate of 1.8 Terabytes per second. Additionally, it houses approximately 92 billion transistors, offers 21,760 CUDA cores, delivers 380 ray-tracing teraflops, and boasts 4,000 AI tops. To power this high-performance beast, you’ll need a minimum of 1,000 watt power supply unit (PSU).
The RTX 5080 graphics card boasts a 16GB capacity of GDDR7 memory, distributed through a 256-bit interface, delivering a data transfer speed of 960 gigabytes per second. It also packs an impressive number of 10,752 CUDA cores and has a thermal design power (TDP) of 360 watts.
This year, NVIDIA is introducing a new feature called DLSS 4, which inserts three extra frames for every rendered frame without requiring as much VRAM as previous models did.
Following tradition, NVIDIA will be releasing Founders Editions of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 on January 30th. Additionally, AIB (Add-in Board) cards from manufacturers such as ASUS, Colorful, Gainward, GALAX, Gigabyte, INNO3D, KFA2, MSI, Palit, PNY, and ZOTAC will be available on the same date. Notebooks equipped with the RTX 5090 and 5080 are expected to hit the market from March 2025, with brands like Acer, ASUS, Dell, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, MECHREVO, MSI, and Razer launching their new products during that time.
