A college student has found herself caught in political crossfire.
The president of New York University’s College Republicans club, Kaya J. Walker, stepped down from her position following controversy sparked by her recent remarks about President Donald J. Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump, and his college experiences at the university.
Kaya said in an interview with Vanity Fair, “He’s somewhat unusual at the university,” referring to Barron. “He attends classes and then returns home.
Currently, Kaya penned a missive to the head of the New York Federation of College Republicans, expressing her perspective on the matter. She asserts that her remark was directed towards the unusual focus on Barron at college campuses, rather than describing the young man himself.
Kaya clarified in a letter, shared by the NYU College Republicans, that her remark to Vanity Fair was misinterpreted. She never found it unusual that Barron Trump was a commuter; many NYU students, including herself, are commuters. The peculiarity she mentioned was not about Barron himself but about the excessive attention people pay to a regular teenager simply attending college.
The college student later pointed out that she had never met Barron, who is the son of Melania Trump, the First Lady. She also stated that she had not observed him on campus. Instead, she criticized the unhealthy aspect of our culture, both on university campuses and globally, where people enjoy creating parasocial relationships with celebrities.
She also brought up Dylan Sprouse and Cole Sprouse, who graduated from NYU, mentioning that just as their lives were closely watched while on campus, similar attention is currently being given to Barron through the sharing of photos by his classmates on social media platforms.
As a lifestyle expert and a seasoned member of our esteemed campus organization, I’ve been honored to be part of this dynamic group since my very first year. Over the course of my tenure, I’ve had the privilege of contributing significantly to its growth, transforming it into a cherished sanctuary that has provided me with an outlet – something I never found growing up amidst the bustling streets of New York City, where sharing my beliefs was often a rarity.
Instead, she stated a need to prioritize the well-being of their organization, which led her to request the NYFCR chairman graciously receive her resignation from the presidency position.
She wrote, “I stand by my attempt to reject the campus madness, but I’m sorry to those I care for and admire who were unintentionally affected by the deliberate and harmful misunderstanding of my statement.
TopMob News has attempted to contact representatives for both Barron and Kaya, seeking their comments, however, we have yet to receive a response.
And amid her resignation, her club is standing behind her.
When posting the letter on social media, the NYU College Republicans chapter stated, “Kaya has been a wonderful leader for us for quite some time now. We want to make it clear that it wasn’t our chapter members who pressured her to step down.

Ivana Trump was initially married to Donald Trump, who later became the President-elect of the United States. Born in Gottwaldov (now Zlín), Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic) in 1949, she gained recognition as a skilled skier. Her marriage to Austrian ski instructor Alfred Winklmayr in 1971 enabled her frequent travels beyond Czechoslovakia.
In her book “Raising Trump,” Ivana recounted that she met Donald three years following her divorce in 1973, during a trip to New York for a Canadian fashion show prior to the Montreal Olympics. They tied the knot in 1977 and had three children: Donald Trump Jr. born in 1977, Ivanka Trump born in 1981, and Eric Trump born in 1984.
In 1992, their divorce was officially completed due to his relationship with Marla Maples, whom he eventually married. Interestingly, Ivana went on to marry Riccardo Mazzucchelli for two years and then Rossano Rubicondi for less than a year. Despite this, Donald and Ivana maintained a cordial relationship.
In 2017, she told ABC News that Donald behaved harshly during their divorce proceedings. He treated the divorce as a business transaction and aimed to emerge victorious. This process took approximately two years, after which they could converse again amicably and have since remained friends.
Ivana passed away in 2022 at the age of 73. As reported by NBC News, the New York City Medical Examiner stated that she died from injuries sustained in a fall on the stairs within her New York apartment, and the manner of death was determined to be an accident. A senior NYC official with firsthand knowledge confirmed this account, suggesting it was consistent with such a fall.
Back in 1977, Donald and Ivana Trump had their firstborn, Donald Trump Junior. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in finance and real estate from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2000, he joined The Trump Organization and currently holds the position of executive vice president.
Donald Junior is also a board member for both Trump Media & Technology Group Corp and PublicSquare Holdings, as well as being part of the investment firm, 1789 Capital. He has been actively involved in his father’s political campaigns, such as addressing rallies and speaking at the Republican National Convention during his dad’s presidential bids.
Don Jr. shares five kids with his former spouse, model Vanessa Haydon: Kai (who also spoke at the 2024 Republican National Convention), Donald III, Tristan, Spencer, and Chloe.
Previously engaged to Fox News alum Kimberly Guilfoyle, Don Jr. recently confirmed their separation. However, they have expressed that their feelings for each other will always remain.
Rumors of a budding romance between Don Jr. and socialite Bettina Anderson have been swirling, but neither party has made any official comment regarding the dating speculation.
Four years following Don Jr.’s arrival, Donald and Ivana welcomed their daughter, who is known as Ivanka Trump. Before her father’s presidency, the graduate of the University of Pennsylvania worked at The Trump Organization. However, after he was elected in 2016, the founder of a fashion brand—with her own self-titled line—assumed the position of Advisor to the President.
After her father announced his intention to run for president again in 2024, Ivanka declared that she would be withdrawing from politics to concentrate on her family with her husband, former White House senior advisor Jared Kushner, and their children Arabella, Joseph, and Theodore.
In a 2022 statement obtained by NBC News, she expressed her affection for her father. “I love my father very much,” she said. “This time around, I am opting to prioritize my young children and the private life we are constructing as a family. I do not intend to be involved in politics.
Eric Trump, born in 1984, is the third-born child of Donald and Ivana. He earned degrees in finance and management from Georgetown University. Similar to his brother, Eric has been serving as executive vice president at The Trump Organization since 2007. Additionally, he holds the position of president at Trump Winery.
Eric is married to Lara Trump, a co-chair for the Republican National Committee. Together, they have children named Luke and Carolina.
Marla Maples is Donald’s second wife, whom he met while still married to Ivana.
In the book “Raising Trump”, Ivana mentioned that during a trip to Aspen in 1989, the actress brought up the affair with Donald. However, Marla stated on an episode of the ABC podcast “Journeys of Faith with Paula Faris” in 2018 that she never considered herself a mistress. She expressed her regret about not seeing the divorce papers before getting involved, as it would have prevented a lot of heartache. Marla and Donald had daughter Tiffany in 1993, married later that year, but separated four years later and officially divorced in 1999.
Following her parents’ divorce, Tiffany Trump chose to live with her mother in California to escape the limelight and establish her own identity. As she explained to People in 2016, this move allowed her to enjoy a more ordinary childhood while growing up without the constant pressure associated with her famous name.
In 2011, Tiffany released her single “Like a Bird,” and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in sociology, focusing on law and society, in 2016. She then pursued a law degree at Georgetown Law School, graduating in 2020.
In 2022, Tiffany got married to Michael Boulos. Her father announced during a speech at the Detroit Economic Club in October 2024 that they were expecting their first child together. “She’s an outstanding young woman,” he said, adding that she was about to have a baby. “That’s wonderful.
Melania Trump, who hails from Mesto, Slovenia born in 1970, is Donald’s third spouse and will be the next First Lady of the United States. She is noteworthy as the second First Lady to be born outside of the U.S., and uniquely, the only one to become a naturalized American citizen.
Melania crossed paths with Donald in New York City in 1996 during a fashion event that a friend organized. According to her recollection on an episode of On the Record With Greta Van Susteren in 2016, “That’s how we met with Donald.”
Melania and Donald exchanged vows in 2005, and their son, Barron Trump, was born the following year.
In 2024, Melania published her memoir titled Melania, and she is set to feature in a documentary. Furthermore, she has shared her intentions for how she will spend her time during her husband’s second term as President.
She stated during an interview with Fox & Friends on Jan. 13 that she would reside at the White House when necessary, but also indicated that she would be in New York or Palm Beach when needed. Her primary focus is being a mother, first lady, and wife. Once they take office on January 20, their duty will be to serve the country.
2006 saw the birth of Barron Trump, the sole child of Donald and Melania. Despite leading a more secluded life, having moved with his parents from New York to Washington D.C., then Florida, there were whispers that he might venture into politics when chosen as a Florida delegate for the Republican National Convention in May 2024. However, Barron chose to decline this opportunity.
In an official statement shared with NBC News, Melania’s office stated, “While Barron is flattered to have been selected by the Florida Republican Party, he politely declines due to existing obligations.”
With Barron commencing his freshman year at New York University in 2024, it appears that academics take precedence over politics. As Donald mentioned in an interview with the Daily Mail on September 4, Barron received acceptance letters from multiple colleges. “He’s quite intelligent,” he said, “and will be attending Stern, NYU’s prestigious business school.”
However, Melania shared during her Fox & Friends interview that Barron would visit his family at the White House.
